Hey all,
I was recently diagnosed with hashimoto's after being passed around from specialist to specialist trying to figure out why I was so sick, and exhausted and in pain all the time. I have been wanting to have another baby but I have heard that pregnancy with hashimoto's can be dangerous. I know with my last pregnancy I had preeclampsia, was on bed rest for 5 months and had to induce labor a month early because of placental abrasion. Im wondering if 1) the hashi's could have caused my problems before and 2) if it would be more dangerous to try again? And info helps! Thanks!
Hello Trixxy1. I have hypothyroidism apparently resulting from Hashimotos. I have a 16 month old baby and thankfully, she is healthy as can be. I have had thyroid problems since Sept of 2011 so I am going on 4 years. My pregnancy was definitely a surprise. Therefore, I was very scared because of my fluctuating thyroid. However, I had good doctors who monitored my condition quite well. I did have to increase my medication to keep up with my changing body. And because my previous pregnancy (7 years ago) was preterm, I ran the risk of having another preterm baby. Therefore my OB suggested progesterone shots for the last 4 months of my pregnancy and it helped a lot. I carried my baby girl to full term and had a normal labor. So my three pregnancies have been quite different. And your body does take a toll. So it is a very personal decision of yours whether you want another baby. But I am sure that if you are well monitored and have a good support team (medical) you will be ok. Best of luck to you!
