GBS RNY Frankly Speaking Community Group
This is a frank speaking group for those who wish to discuss their surgeries diet and personal concerns. Although support is a large part of what this group is about we will also give our frank advice and best recommendation on the premise that information empowers. I hope that those who use this group will understand that critical responses on discussion posts are not...
Thanks

I am waiting for a surgery date for a panniculectomy (removal of the apron of skin on tummy) and number 4 to be done at the same time is a brachioplasty (removal of the excess skin under upper arms). Both surgeries are medically necessary due to itching and rashes caused by the skin and as Mama explained, to get rid of the skin that causes the build up of the yeast and baceria.
My 5th pre-approved surgery is a butt-lift to remove the excess skin. I don't know the medical term for it as it is a ways down the line and although it's approved, it has not been discussed with me yet. The problem with the skin on my butt is that it "hurts". I can't sit for long periods of time (isn't that a change from pre-GBP surgery?).
The skin gets in the way when I am sitting for any length of time and it shifts when I do. I hate that.
My final surgery is a gift from my husband but I won't see it for some 3 or 4 years. Each surgery is requiring 8 months to a year between being released by the surgeon and the planning of the next one. This ensures complete healing.
I've seen the insurance breakdown of sorts..it includes a tummy tuck, not just the apron removal, which is all I am having. Anything beyond the apron removal, I would have to pay for myself. A tummy tuck is actually an abdomnioplasty. They not only remove the skin but make a full incision (at least on me) from breasts to below tummy, remove the excess skin, pull the muscles inward as they are tightened. As it was explained, it would give me the abdomen/tummy of a 20 yr old. I laughed. I'm 54 in 2 weeks. I don't need the body of a 20 yr old. I'll take the removal of the skin, a tremendously less invasive surgery, and go on as I am.
The full addomnioplasty was quoted to me at $6,434. I'm looking at the quote and it appears...not really sure...just appears that the panniculectomy on its own is about $3,200. The brachioplasty is quoted out as $3,109. That looks like it's pretty firm.
I hope this helps you out. My best to all.
Be safe.
