Gastroparesis (Lazy Stomach), also called delayed gastric emptying, is a disorder in which the stomach takes too long to empty its contents. Gastroparesis occurs when the vagus nerve is damaged and the muscles of the stomach and intestines do not work normally. Food then moves slowly or stops moving through the digestive tract.
Sorry I'm so belated in replying. Had some hairy med issues with Polymyositis, and have been side-tracked on that disease.
I have to take Prednisone for the Poly. It has helped heal my Gastro a bit, but I'm still sensitive to whole dairy. So, everything dairy is Fat Free. I miss sharp cheddar cheese.
My gastro & IBS isn't consistent. I can eat, say, a bowl of chili at noon, and my stomach is totally okay. If I eat that same bowl of chili at 4pm, it comes back on me in the form of GERD at 2am !!!! Sometimes, I wish I could just jerk my tummy up by its roots and slap its pouch....Meow!
Hope you can take the Reglan (I think) for your gastro. It gives me a bad stomach ache that won't go away. I'm surprised the prednisone helps, but I thank God that it does. The gastro diet is very boring when the stomach stuff flares.
Thanks for replying.

Eating fiber is a big problem for me. Cutting out nuts, greens, wheat, and other high fiber
foods has helped a lot. One oatmeal cookie can set me way back! I cannot swallow well, so
I had given up greens and some fibrous foods before the GP dx. It's not easy to change
the diet, but it helps a lot.
Reglan gave me issues with my heart rate and made me feel ill. I do better with daily Miralax and Colace
along with a low fiber/residue diet that the gastro dr. recommended.
On the upside, there are tons of wonderful smoothy recipes out there that are good for you and delicious.
You can add some protein powder to them as well.
High fat foods take a LONG time for me to digest. Fried foods are really a no no.
I can't say I miss them anymore. :)
Hope you find some things that work for you!

Sorry y'all have your diseases. Wow. Wish for y'all that you can have a good life despite your setbacks.
I can't eat salads anymore. Greens won't digest. I can eat mushy broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, and French-cut green beans. Spinach gives me stomach cramps/diarrhea. Peas have to be shelled, and raise my blood sugar (I'm also diabetic). Corn ditto. I love Brussels, but am afraid they will get stuck. Mushy cabbage, sauerkraut, eggplant, squash. Not quite baby food, but very soft.
The worst...trying to guess when I'm full. My appestat must be slightly broken, too.
The Prednisone I must take for a muscle disease helps the Gastro. I tried Reglan, and had an terrible stomach ache. After using Imodium and hurting for 6 hours, I went to ER and got Demerol. Reglan is out.
Stomach issues--Gastro, IBS, GERD, Acid Reflux, Hernia.
Stomach Meds--Imodium for diarrhea, Fleet Suppository for constipation, Omeprazole for Acid R & GERD. No dairy when IBS flares.
