yes you can stop gambling and you will when you least expect it .one day you'll say to your self thats it i've had enough and when that happens the rest gets easier.

I wish that just once that the casino's and other gaming sites would be honest with their numbers and also show how many people that gambling has destroyed. It is a life long battle for those that deal with this issue and it's hard for us to use the word NEVER...but we should constantly strive for that realization that gambling can NEVER be a part of our lives...not even for one second. Pray for you!!

I am a compulsive gambler. It is a life long problem. It is an emotional illness.I have quit many times but never for more than a year.I know how to help someone else and know if I help others ,it will help me too.It is like the preacher who said,Hey folks I ,m preaching to me too.haha. Seriously we need each other. All of us have a story, lots of pain, sorrow, guilt and deep scars from gambling.God is our helper in time of need.He is always willing to help.May His will be done in our lives.I am praying to know what His will is for me.In July this year I had a black cloud hanging over me.I prayed for God to help me,I pleaded in desperation.I didn't feel hope for me in this world because of my gambling.I couldnt stop.I remembered the verse that says if your right hand causes you to sin,cut it off and throw it in the fire, better for one part of your body be burned than the whole body burn in hell forever.(This is my memory of it and it fit my sin) I have done hair for 30 years.July 9th I went to my daughter's house 5 mins from me to get my grandson ,who just turned 5.It was 7 am.My daughter left for work,my grandbaby was still asleep.I went upstairs and used her computer for a few mins and then picked up some of their trash in the computer room.I always carry alot of things at the same time like most mothers do.I went down the stairs and the glass that was cradled in my right arm, shatter after i went down on my butt three stairs. It severly cut my right arm,it was wide open.I yelled up to my grandbaby that we have an emergnecy, and I ran out of the house holding my arm together.Blood was pouring out.I ran next door to get help, they didnt awnser the door.I remember my pointer finger on my right hand didnt work,so I had to let go and use my left hand.No awnser.Usually this man is outside watering his flowers very early.I ran back to my daughters yard,my grandson had come out in his underwear and was crying.I told him I had a boo boo and we need to get help.We need someone to call 911.( I dont have a cell phone and she doesnt have a home phone)I stood in her front yard and yelled "help help" there was nobody around.Usually there are a few people walking their dogs and leaving for work, this day nobody.I thought "am I going to die from this? This is a weird thing to die from"Then I felt the awnser was NO so i ran across the street to another house ,on the corner,my grandbaby following me,and rang the door bell.A lady came to the door with her cordless phone in her hand.I said "please call 911"I ran back out to her yard so someone would see me quicker when they came.I dropped to my knees ,holding my arm with my shirt across it and I heard her saying that I had cut my arm at the main artery. Then I felt like i was going to faint.I said I think I am going to faint, then I felt it go away so fast, again I know that was God.I feel the enemy was tryign to destroy me with gambling and then this accident.God allowed what happened to me to show me that I did really want to live.I told my grandbaby "if something happens to me remember I love you and tell ..I said my 3 adult childrens names, that is love them too.) It was after I said that I felt I was not going to faint.I wa so thirsty like never before in my life.I asked the lady for water, she threw down the phone and went towards her house saying "I can only do one thing at a time"While she was gone, I leaned over the phone and yelled"please call my mother and gave her number"the lady came back with a little hand towel for my arm.I really needed a big one.I am sure she was freaking out having a lady at her door at 7 something in the morning bleeding ...She got back on the phone(,I do remember seeing blood all over her phone when I was yelling for them to call my mother.)They told her not to give me the water.I put the towel on my arm and held it there. The ambulance came and they wrapped my arm and started an iv.I requested a hospital that was a little farther away because the one closest has hurt me before in their emergency. He was nice and said i could go t any hospital I wanted. So glad did that,I was afraid the other hosipital would try to clean it with me awake and they would hurt me.I request that they not do anything to it un less I was asleep. The emergncy room dr looked at it and said "Oh you will be having surgery for this" I did.I had cut the Ulnar nerve in my arm. This effects ring finger(haircutting finger) and pinky, half of the hand, the muscles in the hand and several functions of the hand.I did not know how bad this was until two weeks after when the surgeon took off the cast and bandages. The cut was 10 inches long.I cut a small nerve that leads to the main artery, the ulnar nerve which will take a year to grow back, muscles and tendons.Pretty bad freaky accident.Or was it? The last three months have gone by fast.I have had less stress, could pay my bills but not because I gambled.I really could not work.I am right handed so that is not all I couldnt do.I had to depend on other people to wash my hiar, blowdry my bangs, style my hair, cook, drive me to the dr,etc..I couldnt wriite, when i wrote with my left hand I couldnt read it.Freinds and family were super to me.I found out how many people really care about me.I could have died.I have over 40 thank you cards to write.I am seeking God's will for my life. Before this happened I had asked God "Am I supossed to do hair and work in the yard and thats it?" Then i could do neither.Wow ya never knoiw what can happen in a moment your life can change. It may be a year before I can cut hair.I am in PT and hope it will help but without that ulnar nerve there is only so much PT will help.My arm will not straighten out completely either.I can button a button now.I cant turn the key in the car because of the msucles being flat.I am finding new ways to do things. If i dont get better I will just live with it,it could have been worse.Did gambling cause this?Who knows.I will say it was an awnsered prayer.God will use any of us if we are willing.Lord I am willing to do your will.I know what it means now when You said:I thirst" when you were on the cross. I know it was worrse for you because all your blood poured out for me.I thank you for that. I know you love me and there is nothing I can do to make you love me more and nothing I can do to make you love me less.Thank you that I did nt need blood, thankyou for saving my life.I give my life to you.Thank you for the people you put in my life including therse here.Help us to stay away fromm gambling. In Jesus Name I pray.Amen

I would seek help from a psychologist as that's what helped me to kick this for almost 5 years now. Gambling is usually the result of something deeper...for me it was an escape and I thought at the time "stress" reliever! Really all it ever did was cause more stress :( I found the root issue for my having to find an escape and it has helped me immensely. I am a compulsive gambler and that will never change, but I now have learned to deal with things differently. I also recommend ga and continued use of this site. Best of luck and please remember part of the recovery is relapse so don't beat yourself up over it! It all starts with the first day and then it's just one day at a time

It all starts with the first day and then it's just one day at a time I still think of how much I'd like to walk into a casino but I play the tape and the thought goes away much quicker as time passes by. I don't know that the thought will ever leave me because as I have said...I am and always will be a compulsive gambler.
