It’s common knowledge that Franklin Roosevelt is the only President to serve
four terms (even though his fourth was cut short by death several months in.)
No other president has even served three, and thanks
to the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, nobody can.
But before that Amendment passed, several presidents hoped to win a third term in office:
Ulysses Grant, Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt, and Woodrow Wilson.
All of them obviously failed, and of the four, only
Roosevelt was actually nominated by a party to
run for a third term.
As a Progressive, Teddy garnered 88 electoral votes in 1912,
which placed him a very distant second to Woodrow Wilson.
