I moved 24 years ago because it was a sleepy little small town. Years ago there were many cotton mills and small little mill villages that made up the city. We had Lake Greenwood and Lander College. Greenwood High has a great football team and was where I played basketball as a Lady Eagle.
We're famous for Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired, the antebellum city of Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head.
From my hometown... an astronaut, and a New York Yankee.
The Western Slope is sparsely populated compared to the Front Range, with few towns having a population over 5,000; however, the regional population is growing rapidly, contributing to the state's ranking as one of the fastest growing in the nation. The primary economic activities are ranching, mining, and tourism. Fruit farming is also prevalent in areas along the Colorado and Gunnison rivers, including the Grand Valley.
Whitewater rafting on the Colorado, Yampa and Green Rivers. Dinosaur National Monument, and Desolation and Westwater canyons; canyoneering, hiking, and rock climbing in the Colorado National Monument, McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Area, and Dominguez Canyon Wilderness Study Area. Climb desert towers such as Castleton Tower, Ancient Art Tower and Independence Monument. Fish the Colorado River or Gunnison River, or the Gold Medal trout waters of the Roaring Fork River. Explore the desert and mountains on horseback or by jeep. Winter- with cross-country and alpine skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling on the Grand Mesa or San Juan Mountains.

Worked Elsewhere Or Were Independent Means.
All Through The First Half Of The 20th Century A Continous Goal Of The City
Government Was To Attract Residents And Businesses.
By The Mid 1970's, The Success Of These Efforts Created A Backlash Against
The Residents 4 Out Of 5 Of Whom Lived In Apartments Felt Too Much Development.
The Locals Started To Speak Out Against What They Felt Would Soon Destroy The
Character Of Their Community.
