Friends til the end Community Group
A group for those of us here who get more from our friendships than from the available discussion groups. A place to be accepted and appreciated for who we are. Somewhere to always feel safe and know that especially on the bad days we are here for each other .A place for encouragement and love.

I know this shall sound horrifically odd, considering, but, please think good thoughts for me.
I'm in a jam....one heck of a jam. Hubby suspected, but now I'm caught....I'm a book freak. I've books hidden all over the house, dresser drawers, under things, etc. I've a LIBRARY like in Beauty & the Beast strung out and hidden throughout my home and hubby just found out.
He's planning to renovate, or who knows what, to manage my book fixation. That's not bad of me, right? He says "No more books" but I get books alot of the time for free at the local mission.
I know I've a book issue, but I read 2-3 sometimes 4 at a time. I live in a rural town where I have honestly been told "You're the smartest person in town." Not meaning like I'm bragging, honest, I think "God help this place if I am the smartest!" I donated some of my old books (6 large boxes) to the library and I live in a literary HELL and not to sound snotty but the IQ level here is barely normal...everything relates to soap operas, football, and hunting.
My Doctor told me to get involved in what I enjoy and then ask what that would be. I told him frankly good literature such as A DAY IN THE LIFE OF IVAN DENISOVICH (Russian translation), DANTE'S INFERNO, etc. He replied, "you aren't going to find that here." I replied "I know that." Thanks ....I'm not sure what the outcome will be but I'm on the verge of bawling my eyes out.
My dad was a book collector too. 1 entire room was for his study books (ministerial) so I have some of his books, my gram's Bibles, my books, my sis's books (they have all passed on to heaven) but it's more than that. I am studying myself to be a MINISTERIAL (BIBLICAL) COUNSELOR. And add to this my uncle (dad's side) was an ENGLISH PROFESSOR (PhD) AT A COLLEGE IN MISSISSIPPI! Yes, another book fiend.
Since most 98.5% of my books are referencial, social studies, human customs, REAL HONEST LEARNING BOOKS NOT FLUFF, I can't let them go. I mean, all I have I can find and read.
Yes, I've ordered some books, true, but lots have come from the free mission, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and yard sales. My hubby has 2 antique cars and we just added on to the garage last year, plus his 1 tractor. Yes, he is correct that the antique cars are "worth" money, but as I've tried to explain to him, my books expand my MIND and since the body is shot to pieces, my reading/mind is all I've got going still.
Honestly, if I were "paid" to do a job, I'd be a student all my life! I just love learning.
It freaked hubby out when on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" the question was regarding philosphers Soccrates, Marcus Aurelius, and Plato. I was folding laundry, listening to the question, and the gave my answer as I walked off to put laundry away. I came back in, my answer was right, and hubby said "HOW THE H*** DO YOU KNOW THIS STUFF?" I calmly replied the process of deduction and THAT I READ. I refer to the TV as the "idiot box" as there are few programs worth my time.
I LOVE BOOKS! The way they feel, the words how they are written on paper, phraseology, theories, philosophies, etc.
David (hubby) found out tonite.......woah! He and son are now not even speaking to me about how they are going to do shelving to contain my LANDFILL OF BOOKS. They are just planning on shelving. HE WILL CRAP LITERALLY WHEN I PULL BOOKS FROM ALL MY HIDING PLACES.
Am I some sort of freak or have I just found an escape from intellectual Hell? BE HONEST! I can take it.....

Do be sure hubby builds nice deep shelves, then you can store them double depth, Short of that you could always withdraw services and hide the cook "Books" from them!!'
You could always get him a Kindle for father's day, and then when he admits he doesn't know what it is, you'll have it all to yourself. I know, you say it doesn't smell nor feel like a book, but Jackie, it only occupies less than 1 square ft of living space!! Love ya gal..!!
PROBLEM 1) What, pray tell, in the Sam Hill is a KINDLE?
PROBLEM 2) I have reference books and love to make notations & highlighting. I assume that whatever a "kindle" is that wouldn't work. Also, I do research type stuff and I go back to my books as I would dear friends. I also care for them as I would my dear friends...I put protective clear covers on them.....the books, not the friends. LOL
Oh, Carol, how's about just finding a "Beast" to give me an entire library? It happens in the fairy tales, can't Canada Gov do something for a poor refugee?
Hugs & much love.....KINDLE?????
:)
Altho I have my share of the REAL HONEST LEARNING books, I enjoy my FLUFF as well and am not ashamed to admit it. All I can say is, if someone tried to take away my books, they better not care what happens to their arm when they reach for them!!!!!!
Hugs from one book lover to another...dale
come on up here, Canadians read al winter!!
1) THE SHACK (excellant! could read a million times!)
2) HE CHOSE THE NAILS (same as the above. It's more fact based.)
I also used to do wall murals (Art Master Certificate) but since this stuff, I do plaques. I suppose you would call them MINI-MURALS. ROFLOL
I've posted lots of them at DS.
I read/learn so I don't feel useless, also this area is so small, believe it or not, I'm the go-to-person for everything about who to contact/what to say in divorce to trivia answers! LOL
My camera of 10 yrs died and I thru a fit over having to learn all about the whatch-ma-doodles on the new digital camera.
Sorry, I just need to pout I suppose. ROFLOL
