Friends til the end Community Group
A group for those of us here who get more from our friendships than from the available discussion groups. A place to be accepted and appreciated for who we are. Somewhere to always feel safe and know that especially on the bad days we are here for each other .A place for encouragement and love.
Hi everybody! I have a best friend. A true friend, who I've been friends with for more than 40 years. We refer to each other as sisters, and always say that it is a shame that we can't pick our family members the way we can pick our friends, because we are more like sisters than anything else. We have had hiatius' before, where for years we stopped speaking, and then when we got back together again, it was like no time had passed. I don't know what caused us to not speak, as I can't remember, but it happened once before. I think we are heading in that direction again.
I haven't seen my friend in 6 months. We only communicate through emails. She doesn't like to talk on the phone. Our emails are becoming scarce lately. We try to get together, but something always comes up. I also suffer from MS and don't have alot of healthy days which interferes with our plans to get together also.
Recently, she became very sick with diabetes, and I was very, very worried about her. I called her frantically and told her to call me, but knowing that she wouldn't since she doesn't like to use the phone. She got mad at me for "demanding" that I call her. That sort of started us not speaking for a while, until she said she forgot all about the incident, but I don't feel like she has forgiven me. I also feel like she should have known that I was worried sick about her and if I sounded like I demanded anything, to excuse it because of my love and concern for her. The whole incident sounds crazy to me, and I begin to wonder if there is alot more to her story about why she was angry with me. I'm currently acting like nothing has happened, trying to get together with her for lunch or dinner. Things again are just not working out with our schedules.
How do I keep a friendship alilve that seems like it is wilting? It takes two people to make a friendship and I just don't feel like she is in to our friendship anymore. I try to write her regularly emails and let her know what is going on in my little corner of the world just to keep the friendship alive. I get back short emails from her, and they arrive sometimes several weeks later. It's weird. Am I on a sinking ship alone here?

My advice would be to concentrate on the people who are present in your life and to just know that you'd tried your best with this friend. I know it will hurt especially with the friendship going back so far. I'd just be casual with her and move on. You've done all a good friend would do.
