That was so tragic. I do believe the right to protect ourselves is precious. I don't think assault weapons and clips capable of firing 100 shots per minute should be included in that though.

This was such a tragedy for everyone involved and all that witnessed it. I've been watching the special report this morning with victims and authorities giving statements of the event. This is so overwhelming and could have happened anywhere, to any of us. I also believe every citizen has the right to protect themselves but agree with Lesa....Control is the answer. There is no reason anyone would have a need for the type of assault weapons used here and they should be banned to individuals. Prayers for Aurora and our country.

Not for nothing, but only one weapon this guy had on him was an assault weapon. And he cleared all the checks we currently have in place because he had no prior record. So obviously it's not enough. This guy was planning this for months and no one had any clue..who knows how many more people there are in this world who are currently plotting something similarly diabolical out.

I know gun rights defenders like to use the old "guns don't kill people, people kill people" mantra, but frankly, if this guy didn't have even one gun on him then 12 people would still be alive today and 59 people wouldn't have been injured and countless others wouldn't be scarred with the trauma of living through that horrible tragedy or losing anyone from it. He sure as heck wouldn't have been able to do that kind of damange with a knife or his bare hands.

I think this guy's mother may be partially responsible. When she heard what happened she said she wasnt surprised. if she felt something wasnt right why didnt she seek help.
