and somehow find a way to fix unemployment for those who are stuck looking for work, cannot find work
Health Care - Forsure " !
Ok, let's see...
- Have all unemployment recipients work for it as a wage not a benefit. Have these people be used for jury pools, roadside clean-up, and other basic labor type jobs. This would give those unemployed people something to include on their resumes as current work and would give those against giving people benefits for nothing a reason to shut up about it.
- Regulate the healthcare industry and insurance. Have all services be analyzed for cost and set regulated prices that all healthcare providers cannot charge above. Allow people to pay into a health care benefit system (like medicaid) and never allow for someone to not be treated because they cannot afford proper care. There should be a pay down bill system allowance for those who cannot afford to pay (of course, if all services are price regulated, perhaps they would not have to be astronomically overpriced and difficult for someone to pay in the first place).
- Reform Social Security. There are many people who need it for sure but there are also people getting a check each month who do not. I can count a couple of aunts and uncles who have plenty coming in from pensions and other funds who do not need the extra SS check but get it merely due to age. If they cut paying those who have over a certain limit of income from other avenues, they could cut back on the amount that the department pays each month. I would also no longer allow the government to borrow from the allocated funding for this program.
- Raise taxes to the levels they were at prior to the Bush Administration and cut tax loopholes for corporations and the wealthy. Cut pork barrel spending and make lobbying illegal.
- Cut health benefits for politicians in half - they do not deserve to get their benefits for free if everyone else has to pay into theirs. Do not allow politicians to double dip (getting their pensions while still working).
- Create a leeway system for current illegal immigrants to become legal citizens within a period of 2 years without penalty or threat to be deported - after the 2 year limit though, crack down on illegal immigration. We have no problem with people coming leagally if they so choose but they must pay taxes! Reform the clauses that allow for any person born in the country to be considered an automatic citizen and require that the parents must be natural born citizens as well for the child to automatically be a natural born citizen.
- Legalize and regulate the heck out of prostitution and certain recreational drugs. I get this will piss some folks off (if the immigration one didn't already) but I figure that by regulating these items we can have more control over them - prositutes can be required to have annual std testing and be taxed on their profession. Drugs can be taxed and regulated for how much an individual can purchase in a given time (like they do now with OTC meds at the pharmacy). Making them legal means we will have more room in the jails because these people will no longer be doing time for these issues. We would still keep laws on the books making it illegal to be using a drug while operating a car or other machinery though and anything that might cause harm to any other person, but selling and buying and soliciting a prostitute can go.
- Support and provide funding for trade/vocational schools to train people in labor type jobs. Things that can actually be useful to have people trained in - carpentry, plumbing, farming, engineering, et al. And start creating some infrastructure jobs (fixing bridges, roads, homes, etc. from hurricane damage for instance) for those newly trained people to do.
Granted some of my points might be a bit out there for some and maybe not all will work and I'd have a lot of people on both sides of the aisle who would hate what I have suggested, but I think at least a few of those things might work to get the country back on track. Don't hate me for the suggestions though, please!
