They Should Be Improved " !
I digress. Most all of us would not be here in the first place had the country not had an open door policy when it came to immigration. But I think of it this way - when my ancestors came, they all did it legally through the proper channels. They all learned English and some even changed their names in order to get jobs since there was discrimination in certain eras towards European ethnic names. They passed whatever citizenship test there was at the time they came and became legal citizens and paid their taxes and their dues in order to live "the American Dream". I have no problem with anyone else who wishes to come from another country and live the American Dream too - so long as they go about doing it the same way. Come on a visa, apply for citizenship and pass the test. Learn English and pay taxes. If someone is here illegally but wants to stay I say, give them the chance to become a legal citizen but if they balk at having to pay taxes or speak English and don't want to be a citizen, then send them back to where they came from. Like Lesa said, it drains the hardworking, struggling taxpayers to have to pay for children of illegals to go to school, or for them to get government assistance. I am a US citizen and I can't get help but someone who is here illegally and has never paid a dime in taxes can get all sorts of benefits?! That is a problem. Things do need to change, unfortunately, neither side has a proper solution so it's doubtful they ever will.
