Who the heck knows...but whenever it was, it did lead to one of the greatest modes of transport of all time, the Popemobile. It has always reminded me of the dice bubble on the Trouble game board for some reason. If it is so safe though, why don't other world leaders travel in similar style? I mean, that bubble thing is cool. Way cooler than a souped up limo. Probably uses less gas too.
