Lorna, I read this and then just read it again. It is beautiful. I don't know who the "she" is you are speaking of, but I do know who it is for me. My Mum died two and a half years ago in Sept 2007. We had had an horrific life but she and I had gained great mutual healing in the years leading up to her death - we were able to love each other as never before, and even just "be" with each other - usually on long phone calls between the 350km distance.
Two years ago I nearly died. I was in a 5 day coma and as I was coming out of the coma I had a period where I was talking, but I don't have any recall of it. But I was told afterwards that I looked up ti the head of the bed/guerney and said, "Mum's there". It shocked me when I was told that as my belief system doesn't allow for something like that. But I don't care if even now, in general, my beliefs still generally don't allow for that because I DO feel she was there and I feel that she was saying, Wendy, I'm not ready for you yet. And she was looking after me and over me.
Mum was a cheeky person and so am I, and I laugh to myself (and cry) when I think of this episode as I think "She STILL had the last word!!??"
