Or better yet why am I here?
We are born and live a life that is probably meaningless
Memories collected and lessons learned just to be lost in old age or disease
Sports learned, books read, talents mastered
The spiritual search
Food and sun
Drugs and alcohol
Exploration of other life forms
Exploration of invisible currants and forces
Making bombs
Giving birth
Making movies
Writing
Sometimes it is not what I am doing here, it is how I am being here
And when I die my only comfort is that all living die
And that's what I am, a part of life
And I know this
And I am grateful
It does seems such a waste doesn't it? We work so hard to get ahead and have the American dream, to leave all our prizes behind while we push up daisies somewhere, mostly forgotten by friend and foe. Of course, that is depression to think that way so I will go on believing everything I do is significant! Like the fool I am. Good read, Lorna.
Ooohh - I loved the line, "Sometimes it is not what I am doing here, it is how I am being here".. That just really helps me "in today". Just be the best person I can be and that in itself is being of service to others, and a gift to myself.
I ask, because of the really tragic course of my life, WHY?? Why am I here just to be a burden upon myself and others and be in constant agony due to mental illness, and for me also 18 years of blackout drinking - sober11 years now? Well, maybe I have done some things in my life that have helped others. Maybe all up, I will leave the planet a better place than I found it when i was born? I think we with mental illness and addiction can really undersell our role in being a positive force in our world.
