Fighting for the freedom I never had
Once obtained, now clueless as how to use it.
Fighting to do the right thing
Not one clue what the right thing is.
Fighting to protect my young heart
Not wanting to shut people out.
Fighting to fix my broken soul
Only to fight new battles every day.
Iâve always wanted to be a good person.
Iâve always wanted to do no harm.
Now that I am growing up, leaving the child behindâ¦
I often find myself lost in this violent sea they call the;
Real World.
This âReal Worldâ is full of hatred and bigotry, at least as far as Iâve seen.
Itâs full of lies and back-handed kindness.
Users and abusers make the best of this world because they feed on the weak.
How do you make it in such a world when all you want to do is be kind?
When all you want to do is extend your open hearted love to everyone you meet?
Iâm so scared of being hurt again.
I donât understand how to tell truth from lies.
Iâm too trusting. But at the same time, not trusting at all.
I pray to God to help me see the best in people, only to be let down time and time again.
I only find solace in solitude, but that is no way to live.
How can I break out of my shell when it's already been broken for me?
How can a person like me ever fully love in a world so filled with hate?
Dont worry Shlay, it does that if you are using Word. For some reason the tranfer doesnt translate the punctuation.
Alot of confusion and emotion in your writing. The reality is scarey sometimes but we dont have to conform to "the world". Thanks for sharing, it was awesome. xo
Dear Shlay,
I too see a lot of emotion and confusion in your writing. When my sister was murdered 7 months ago, my entire world was turned upside down. The world became even scarier to me. I saw mean and evil every where I looked. I still think there is more bad than good in this world. Perhaps I always will. I'll be 55 years old in a few weeks, in the last seven months, I have began a transformation. I always thought i was a kind and good person. Now, I feel even kinder and better. I've cleansed myself from the inside out. Really looked inside and righted some wrongs. I now take care of me, first. I am kinder, to those I choose to be kind to. I am a better person, to those I choose to share that with. I won't say I've withdrawn from society, I've withdrawn from trust. I trust very few people now. I am courteous to most people. however, i have extended my parameters of who and what I share anything about myself. Even family members do not hear what's in my heart. I choose not to share it. You ask how you can ever really love in such a cruel world. I don't have that answer. The only answer I have found is that I have to love myself first and foremost. And for now, that's enough for me. Keep writing, you have a gift.
