Here I lay, once again at a loss. A loss for understanding of my own emotions. Thousands of pages of diaries sit scattered across my small apartment floors. None of it makes sense. Not knowing myself. You'd think, after all this writing I would have figured out how to understand myself. Yet I am still just becoming self aware. Just learning myself. I suppose that is normal for my age, being twenty one and all. But it feels so abnormal. You'd think that I'd know how to accept friendship, but I don't. Having a long conversation with my landlord tonight only left me feeling anxious and lost. You'd think, maybe, I would be comforted by having a friend live right below me. Maybe I could feel happy and at ease for once. Maybe it's the twenty one years of always doing or being something wrong. Never being able to live in a safe place. Never able to love myself. Good grief, it could be just about anything!
All I want to know right now, in the mist of a million other questions, is how to accept companionship.
Shlay, I'm old enough to be your mother, actually older than that! I'm still learning about myself. With each new chapter in my life, I learn.
I've learned that everything I have ever done, wrong or right, I learned from it. I don't think of the wrong choices as mistakes anymore, I refer to them as learning experiences and I don't go back down that road. I've learned I have to like myself, love myself, before I can ever love anyone else. Accept yourself for who you are, like yourself first, then love will come. And always know, you will continue to learn every day of your life!!
Ive come to this place several times in my life along the way; even though I know, I've learned and grown since the last time, I still feel just as lost when it happens again. This feeling comes to me often, when I am in a transition of life, and I'm all flustered. One thing that's helped me through it is, (when I remember to do this!!) is to identify just what it is that I'm feeling at the moment....(that is where writing comes in handy, so you can go back and read just what your thoughts are)....and ask yourself why you feel that way. Then, do the process over again with your answer. Keep doing that until you get your "ah, ha..." answer. It usually is a suprise to me, to do that process and identify the root reason why something is troubling me so much. This was described as, "Jacob's ladder" in one of my college text books on communication skills. Once you learn it, you can identify when something has a root reason, because it troubles you so much. Kinda like a toothache!!
