I don't know if anyone else has found this, but during the worst times in my marriage, both of them I have found myself seeking something from "God". I was born Catholic, but very little of my childhood was spent reading the Bible.
Since then, during my first crisis, I was called to download an audio book of the Bible. I listened to it during my work outs. Togehter they helped sooth my anxity of separation and we were able to sort of resolve our issue (not really as were still dealing with it now, but we survived several years!).
This time, my new apartment is in a neighborhood and city that is very conducive to walking. I walked past a church and was compelled to vist the service. I got nothing from it. But not long after, when I had my girls with me, we walked to a park by the apartment. There they met up with friends from school. I got to speaking with their father and some how church came up. I was invited to come, and that Sunday I did. The first sermon spoke to me in a way I can not describe. I was over come with love.
I dont attend every Sunday, but I try. I have briefly spoken to the pastor at the end of service and he had offered to get together one night for coffee. I reached out to him yesterday and today he reached back.
I don't know what all this means. I have not lead a very Christian life. But I keep getting called to him. So I am going with it. Maybe through Jesus My life can turn around for the better. It may not be with my current wife but maybe it will be better?
Anyway, just wanted to share in this new found forum. Hopefully we can use it to heal better?
Without being spiritual i could not have made it
Thru the breakup and divorce.
My leanings are more from alanon and divorce care, i do
attend The church where we had DC some, its a baptist
Church. I love the minsiter and the fellowship. Its the
Bible sermons i am not real fond of so i don't go as
Much anymore as i was.
I am a very lapsed catholic myself, i did try going
Once it was not the same as the old ways. I should
try different types of Churches.
I am really just spiritual many people do think the
same there. Its just some different lines where the
bible comes Into play and the ideology. IMO
I am glad you found some comfort, God has held
My hand all the way thru this and i am fairly spiritual.
Its my emotional side that needs lots of love and self
Compassion. HUGS
Anonymous, what a wonderful post. I'm so glad you feel peace. Without feeling connected to God, I truly believe that I could not r
survived through this divorce. I slept with my bible on chest. I also listened to k-love radio station kept me alive. Thanks for Sharing your beautiful post.
Maradac, I have friends who are Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal, and friends who are truly believing but do not support a demoniation. I believe it's between God and that person. One of my friends just turned 90, drives her car and attends mass before work. I think she is awesome. My childhood was mixed. My dad was Baptist, and my mother was Pentecostal. They started a church called Independent. This way. everyone c
could attend. I know with all my heart, God is love. I do not need a label. Without this Closeness. this love. this peace, I could not have stood this divorce.
As far as attending church. I encourage you to do so. I have discovered it's those times when I slightly consider not going, are the times the message is totally what I needed to hear and I'm glad I went. Now when I get that "it would be nice to stay home tonight," feeling; I get excited because I know in my heart there is going to be something special for me there. Most churches have services three days a week. There is something about corporate worship with other believers, you cannot get by staying home...even if you watch on tv or computer. Try to find a church that teaches the Bible, verse by verse by qualified people. Don't get caught up in the trap of legalism. It does more damage than good. I'm not saying anything goes either. God bless (((HUGS)))
