Fibroids are muscular tumors that grow in the uterus and can negatively impact a woman's quality of life. Women may experience a range of symptoms which may include pain and heavy menstrual bleeding, frequent urination and infertility. This is designed to support women coping with fibroids.
I would like to ask those who have had their fibroids treated (embolization, ablation, myomectomy, etc), which treatment did you choose and how has it affected your body and your life?
Is there anyone who decided not to have their fibroids treated? If so how it that working out? (Mine are big but not symptomatic, I might keep them until they shrink naturally UNLESS it's dangerous to let them keep growing)
I had scheduled an ablation for heavy (I mean worse than a crime scene) periods. Pre-op ultrasound revealed 4 fibroids (1 is 3cm and the other 3 are 4cm each). Due to the size of the fibroids the ablation was cancelled. The next step was the Mirena IUD. I was told that it could take 6 months to notice a difference. After 3 months of non stop bleeding (I was willing to hold out the entire 6 months), my body expelled the IUD with a decidual cast (I had never heard of that and it was definitely a gross learn8ng experience). Apparently any progesterone taken gives a slight risk for that, apparently it was just my luck. Currently I am now taking the mini-pill (could take 3 months to see a difference) in hopes of this helping.
I was also told that they shrink after menopause. I am 51 years old and recently asked for hormone test to see how much longer I may need to put up with this or if I should just bite it & get the hysterectomy. Test results came in today, I’m NOT even peri menopause. Sigh...I would really be happy with a hot flash right about now.
I am trying all options before the hysterectomy, I don’t know of anyone that has had one that didn’t develop different problems as a result. If my dr will okay it I will try the uterine embolization (everything I’ve researched says it has really good results) if the mini pill doesn’t work.
