Issues with 18 year old daughter & boyfriend
Family situation regarding my daughter, her boyfriend and trying to move him into my house...
First of all, a little back-story on the situation.
My daughter was completely obsessed with having a boyfriend since around age 13, and we would constantly be chasing her around and find her running off after school, disappearing to friends houses to be with her boyfriend, I even caught her and him in a porta potty near her middle school doing god knows what in there (three guesses).
Fast forward to high school, she was dumped by that boyfriend, who at her disgust, I would not allow in our home very much and especially not her bedroom. She desperately wanted another boyfriend and finally found another one, my worst nightmare.
This guy would try to stare you down. He was cocky, know it all, arrogant, basically a big b.s. artist. You could tell just by meeting him once that he had a chip on his shoulder, a massive sense of superiority, and definitley no respect for you as an adult or parent. There was just something "not right" about this guy I felt, and still do.
A few months after they began dating, I found that she had basically totally dropped out of school, just hadn't been going at all for months, the principle refused to enforce anything about this, stating that after they're 16 they can pretty much do what they want. I pleaded with her but she wouldn't have anything more to do with school, short of holding her at gunpoint and forcing her to go, that was it..
I found out that the boyfriend had already dropped out and encouraged her to do the same.
I told her that if it's no school, it's time to go to work, so that's what she did.
Several jobs and 2 1/2 years later, she is now 18 and prenant with his kid, and still living at home, rent free. She has been (kind of) paying her phone bill however. I know that by not charging her rent, I am in the wrong, but I wanted her to maybe save up some money, etc.
Well, two weeks ago her boyfriend's mother actually legally evicted him from their house for not paying his obligations and guess what?
My daughter began moving him into my house, without even asking!!
Of course I said "hell no!" And she came back at me with "he's the father of your grandchild"..
My thoughts are this: "so what!?" You're adults and not my responsibility at all, your decisions are your own.. I'm not automatically letting him live here "just because".. I made him sign a paper that he can stire his stuff at my home, but cannot stay there or live there.
He continues to live in his truck, outside my house and come in only to use the bathroom..
Even this much contact with the guy is annoying to me, he just needs to get his own apartment and grow up, right?
My daughter is claiming that I'm forcing her to be homeless with him, why?? She has a place to live, I'm just not responsible for HIM!
If she moves out and becomes homeless, that's her decision..
The big question, what now?? I feel like getting a restraining order on the guy. I'm being manipulated and coerced into feeling like a bad evil person here, but I feel like what's going on is totally out of bounds and unfair to me and my 9 year old son.
Am I right?
Also - important, her mom who lives with me completely agrees with her and is calling me the unreasonable one..
Any and all advice is appreciated here!
Thanks
