Has anyone been put on the new anticoag -Eliquis? I was given a prescription for this yesterday. It is one of the new ones that does not require you to have your blood checked and what you eat (vitamin K) doesn't affect it. It is supposed to be safer than Pradaxa (but not sure if that claim has been verified).

I was trying to find some real people who had taken this and so far, only came across one site where everyone who posted was having problems such as extreme fatigue, brain fog, joint pain and swelling. The claims were that it would get better within 4 weeks, but I didn't see anyone who confirmed this. The problems seemed to be so bad that they couldn't wait the 4 weeks and just wanted off of it. This does not sound good to me! I'm going to do a little more research -maybe I'll find some better news!

I'll try to post here if I come up with anything in case anyone else is wondering!

I was in the hospital with a small clot last March, in addition to the big clots 7 years ago this month. The doc there was trying to put me on it, and my Cardiologist said NO. The pharmacist came up to see me and we had a discussion about it. He brought it up. Said it hasn't been really proven, and yes, still have to watch things, there have been issues with it. After this many years, I would be afraid to try something else. I have the coagucheck machine and my husband pokes my finger weekly and I know the status of my blood. It's convenient, your doctor has to prescribe it. We traveled in the RV a lot, even though we no longer do, my doc tells them I need it.

Thanks for the info. We are military, so I don't know if they would pay for the coagcheck machine, but I can always ask. I'll take this Eliquis for a bit in the meantime, I guess and see how it goes.

I have FVL and have had numerous PE's and DVT's. I had been on Coumadin since 2013 and finally talked my hematologist into changing me to Eliquis...now 3 months later I have a new clot in my left leg from the juncture of the Greater Saphenous to my popliteal. I have taken my Eliquis twice daily religiously. I am now back on a Lovenox bridge to coumadin. No second generation anticoagulant medications have worked with me. I have occluded on all of them with the exception of good old Coumadin and Lovenox.

I was on a similar one. Pradaxia. take 2x per day. I liked it better than warf because I am a drinker and it does not mess with that. Can also eat stuff that has V k like spinach.
Insurance took me off it cause it was $500+ per month. warf is only $7.
Understand that the doctors do not make your choices anymore, the insurance CO does. So try and make due!
