Isaiah turns to God's judgement against Babylon. Vv 1-6
V. 6 shows that Isaiah's reference has both immediate and end-time significance. (" the day of the Lord- end time; Babylon's fall 539 BC)
Babylon- an evil empire that will arise in the last days ( Rev. 14: 8)
13:19 The everlasting destruction of Babylon
Isaiah received a message concerning the destruction of Babylon. God said, raise the flag, and call an army against them. The army came from distant countries and they are the LORD’s weapons. It was prophesied that the sun will be dark and the moon will provide no light. God will punish the world for it’s evil. (This appears to me to be talking about the tribulation period when God will be punishing the whole world, and there will be more darkness in a day then there will be light? I could be wrong about that, it just sounded similar to things that are said in Revelation about the sun going dark, and God judging Babylon. According to Tim LaHaye, “Babylon” represents the evil world in the book of Revelation, I thought that may be what is happening here also .) The attacking armies will have no mercy, Babylon will be devastated, and it will never be inhabited again. Desert animals will move in and take over the city.
