Hi i am a member of this group. I have been on xanex 2mg's 3 times a day for many yrs, ok i allways had to take more than prescribed so i was allways running short, so my doc instead of upping the dosage or augmenting it w/ a simeler drug, so i am off xanex, and yesterday was my first full day of same dosage of ativan. Has anyone else ever have probs like this, ok im sick to my stomach when i take the ativan, im very forgetful, kinda dizzy, impaired judgment, and i have a HIGH tolerance for everything except alcahol. no street drugs, just my meds ive been taken forever and now i am on ativan now for a trial period, so what im trying so badly to say is will these i guess side effects go away or am i detoxing of xanex? oh ya cold hot sweets, very forgetful. doc and pharmacist both said its stronger and last's longer, so i guess i want to know if anyone who would want to share there story w/ me. i have to see doc tomorrow and she is going to ask if they are working and i really dont know... and its only been 2 full days since i started them, thats not enough time to tell maybe? Anyone, im rubbin 2 sticks together here. thanks in advanc for any advice or counsel thank you all May you have peace in you'r life....

I looked up the new meds you are taking.Tell your doctor all your symptoms. Maybe it is not agreeing with you.

Ativan side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Ativan: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

confusion, depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
hyperactivity, agitation, hostility;
hallucinations; or
feeling light-headed, fainting.
Less serious Ativan side effects may include:

drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness;
blurred vision;
sleep problems (insomnia);
muscle weakness, lack of balance or coordination;
amnesia or forgetfulness, trouble concentrating;
nausea, vomiting, constipation;
appetite changes; or
skin rash.

As someone who has been on a lot of drugs to stay alive the last 17 years I have been taken off many at different points in time. It does sound to me like you are going through a small withdrawal experience from the Xanax. It sounds like you didn't taper down on the Xanax and then start the Ativan. I'm guessing you went from one drug, Xanax, overnight to the other drug? I've had withdrawal experiences several times now, even with tapering off some drugs. It's good that your seeing the doctor tomorrow and you can discuss this. I would guess the Ativan is working or you would feel a lot worse physically. Hope your feeling better soon.

I realize that this post was made last year. I hope that you are feeling better right now. I am a MH/SA counselor, and you were having withdrawal sxs, because you were taken off the Xanax all at once. It should have been tapered off. Did the Dr. ever get your meds right? Any time you feel like a medication is causing you to feel too much discomfort, let the Dr. know. By all means, if he/she wants to take you off another medication, please tell him/her that you prefer to be tapered off instead of stopping cold turkey.

Caramel, I feel that you are so right. Gimme was experiencing withdrawal. That is such a shame.
