I am currently 16 years old and have been going through a major depression for the past several years of my life due to my parents emotional abuse. I have been going to a counselor for a few months now, which has been a tremendous help, but I am barely getting started on my healing recovery. I still face my reality of living with my parents everyday. Over the years they have driven me to be a different person who carries an extreme amount of damage and pain. I thought of joining an online group after learning much more about my situation that protains to me through counseling and my own research. I am looking to maybe find some people on here who I can relate to and work with to build better support! I found a great amount of comfort reading through comments knowing I'm not alone several other people deal with the same problem I do. Please leave some comments if you would like to talk for both our benefits and maybe build a safe place for each other!

How old were you when you realized your parents were emotionally abusive to you? My husband is emotionally abusive and I block him from doing it to my kids but I cannot be with them every minute of their lives. should I be considering counseling for them at some point? If so what age would you suggest.
If you need a mom to talk to I am here! I am not good at giving advice but I will listen!

It was more recently when I was able to put the word “emotional abuse” on their actions, but I’ve known since I was about 8 yrs old that I didn’t have correct parenting. I’ve known for a very long time that my parents don’t treat me right. Your a very good mother for trying to keep your kids safe from the damage emotionally abusive parenting has!! I agree it is difficult to keep on the abuse because it is constant and you cannot control situations at which you aren’t present. I would of course recommend counseling because emotional abuse causes so many problems in someone developmentally,especially in children who are most vulnerable. I would suggest age 12-13 because at that age children are able to handle and think about the subject of emotional abuse in a better manner. They are able to really understand and can start to work on themselves at that age as they are becoming more independent. Obviously the amount and severity of the abuse is something to take into consideration when deciding on any counseling. Talk with your kids and see what they think as well, their input can help a lot!! Thank you so much for commenting I really appreciate it! And yes I would love to start talking!!
