Emotional Abuse Community Group
This group is for people who live their lives with an emotionally abusive person. Often Isolation is a barrier to getting help and support from others who know what you are going through.
I'm writing here because the emotional abuse that I have experienced had been unlike what I have read elsewhere. I met a man years ago and fell in love, my first love, understanding that the relationship would end as he would go travel and work, and I would stay and study. I never told him that I loved him for fear of the unknown and the first time expressing this, my gut was right telling me that I would risk losing him if I did. He left, and it ended up being that he would travel for 5 years, and that I would keep in contact, emailing everyday, then eventually twice a week. He would come back home to visit and things would pick up from where they had left off. At first it felt loving, like he actually missed me, but it would later feel more and more demeaning and I sadly let him demean me. It wasn't until I talked to a mutual friend where I learnt by an accidental slip of the tongue that he had brought his girlfriend over with him. It was the same trip that he had initiated oral sex with me. I was heartbroken but I still thought that there had to have been some form of explanation, or that I could redeem some form of friendship at the end of it. I asked him what was going on and I was dismissed. "It's not as bad as you think :)" he said. I pleaded with him to talk to me, emailing back and forth and he dismissed me. I started looking for answers thinking that there was an explanation.. was it a new girlfriend?.. could I still be a friend?.. did he care at all about me? I felt confused and desperate to understand and hold onto the love that I had for him. I started looking for answers. I found an email address attached to a fwd that he had sent. It was her email. I googled and searched her name on Skype. Sure enough she lived in the same city, and what cut me even more was that this email was years old. I sent him the ultimatum "tell her or I will". I thought he would confess to me what had happened.. that it was a mistake, that he was unhappy.. and then I would be able to deal with what ever would come out of that.. or that I was completely wrong.. but he didn't. Instead he sent an email saying that he had never felt love ever.. that that part of human nature wasn't in him, that I obviously did mean something for him to email me. I felt even more confused and also guilted. I didn't know what to believe. Out of anger, confusion, and relieving the moral stress of cheating that I felt was on my shoulders I emailed her. It would later brake up their relationship. I still didn't have any answers at the time as to what had happened. I sank into depression. I couldn't understand any of it. I was still holding onto the love that I had for him.
