Hi everyone. I am so happy I found this support group. I just started EMDR on Friday and have needed someone to talk to who really gets it. My therapist did a great job telling me what to expect and explained how I would feel some emotional hangovers especially after my first few sessions. I totally see what she was talking about, and I feel so alone in this since no one in my life, at least that I know of, has done EMDR before so I feel like they don't really get it. I could use any support that I can get. I've just been wanting to talk to someone who will know what I'm talking about.
I've been in therapy for a year and just recently had my first EMDR session. I can relate to the loneliness . I'm really struggling with feeling anxious and tired after sessions.
I startred EMDR about 2 months ago. It is a rollercoaster ride but it does work. The day after is always really hard for me. I feel emotionally drained and tired. I find myself not being able to engage in basic conversation. I just feel "in my head."
I haven't been around for a long time but thought id share my experience.
I stopped therapy over a year ago but now reinstated it but with a different therapist.
I'm not sure if beginning EMDR session the first time after intake is the greatest thing to do because no trust has really been established but that's what happened to me last week.
My mind blocks memories very well but there are a few exceptions. When thinking of a memory to bring up i go entire blank, everything clogs up. I dont think i did very well for the first session. I didnt know what i was feeling afterwards. I felt okay though, since nothing really came through during emdr.
Holy cow, after the session of therapy was done i felt like i was ran over by a semi. I was exhausted. I slept that night and 12 hours throughout the day. I felt weak, my head hurt and memories that i hadnt recalled for a long time started coming to my recollection.. not very fun but its part of the process.
It sucks though, not having any support, not being to tell anyone about therapy because they think its evil, or the way your feeling because they wouldnt understand.
my next session is in three days and i feel like im only beginning to recover from last week and i dont think i did very much.
Also have any of your therapists asked you a series of questions to find the characteristic to "the answer". Search Deb Kennard, The Answer. Apparently im the "invisible one" I fall into the catergory of having over developed skills in, disappearing, survival defenses and sensitivity. My under developed skills are safety, grounding, staying present and feeling.
