I sse that this is not an active thread/topic, but am hoping it will become so again as I need a place to talk about EMDR.
I'm a 64y.o. woman and have been in conventional therapy for over 10 years. The last two years I was seeing a therapist I liked, but it was only once a month to touch base. This spring I started having some health problems and was told they were related to stress. I'd tried EMDR a couple years ago, but it was too far to drive and the therapist was not a good fit.
Now I've found a wonderful therapist not far away who only deals in trauma. I've seen her 5 times (once a week) giving her my history while she took notes of what we're going to target Saw her two days ago and she handed me a sheet of paper she'd typed with my target list. We spent the hour discussing it and I gave her more which we discussed and fine tuned the target list. She said we'd probably start EMDR next week or the following one. I left feeling totally exhausted and numb, came home, climbed in my chair and slept for awhile and couldn't really function the rest of the day. That's how draining the session was so I'm wondering what's it's going to be like when we do the actual EMDR?
