Community members of Oregon/Idaho have formed the LGBTQIA+ Community Coalition of Oregon/Idaho. The group is a combination of LGBTQIA+ members and allies working to develop and implement strategies to make our communities more inclusive. I am so fortunate to be at the table working with such talented and community focused people.
I am working on Saint Alphonsus – Ontario's Community Health Needs Assessment for 2020. This assessment is done every 3 years, in partnership with the United Way of Treasure Valley and Health Resources in Action (HRIA). This Ontario-area needs assessment will cover Malheur, Washington, and Payette Counties. I want to make sure that the collective voice of the area's LGBTQIA+ community is captured and heard this year. We typically gather this information via Key Informant Interviews, Focus Groups and individual surveys. I am looking for opportunities for all 3 methods of information gathering from the community. What are my options? Key Informant Interviews typically involve 1-3 people that are considered community leaders in a given arena, and can occur just about any place or time that works for the informants. For Focus Groups, I am happy to piggy back, off of an existing meeting that people attend, or create a custom time where a number of people could gather and be interviewed in a group setting of 6-20 people. 8-12 is ideal, but we're flexible. I love to do focus groups centered around a meal (that I would provide) as a more communal way of interacting. Individual surveys can be completed at the end of a Focus Group, or I can send links to take the survey online through SurveyMonkey. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Swahili, Somali, and Arabic. Thoughts? I look forward to hearing from you.
