My counselor has suggested I try a support group. I did go yesterday to one that is held not too far from where my counselor's office is. I am not comfortable opening up to large groups. There were about 12-14 people there. I just sat and listened and I was waiting for it to be my turn to talk. There was a placard with rules and one of the rules said that you didn't have to share if you didn't want to. Being my first time at any support group I decided I just wanted to listen.

The woman who ran the group called for a break, I decided I wanted to leave. I'd been there for about an hour (the group runs for 2 hours every Sat) I'm not sure if I'll go back to this one or try another one that meets the 2nd and 4th Thurs every month.

I was curious as to what others experiences have been like at a support group?

I am in Therapy for the last 6 years... I go about every 6 weeks.
My session goes for one hour and it helps me so much.
Sometimes I leave before the hour is up... and that's okay.

I was in a support group a few years ago and it was a great help to me. Sometimes it helps to know that you are not alone in your heartaches. It takes courage to attend and participate but in time you will get to know the other members and feel open to discuss issues with them. Good for you taking the first step.

My experience is most results oriented groups , especially therapeutic ones are facilitated by a good therapist. The abilities and skills of the "leader " will enhance any experience in a group ! Being honest and knowing what YOU need will make a big difference in results.
Kind of like building up muscles with a good personal trainer.
That being said, ask yourself, WHY did you choose to leave instead of asking the facilitator what does your
"needing" to leave really mean
Don't quit before the miracle and good luck.......... Whatever you choose; you are worth the effort
