Why am I the forgotten child?
I awake to trouble
The ills of life, meet me at the break of dawn
And stick to me like a shadow till sun set
Why am I the forgotten child?
A gun in my hand I hold
But a pen I long to hold
Watching others sitting in a classroom
Makes my heart sink
As I look through the shattered windows of my soul
A tear drops
My future someone hold in their hands
My future and dreams locked away
Tucked away in a black box
The key in their hand they hold
Without remorse they walk away
My dreams I long to embrace
Their decisions not mine
I live on
A voice of my own I have not
My wretched and bruised soul cries out
My caged soul longs for a blithe sprit

My birthday is just like any another day
No cake, no hug, no flowers
The street my home
The rocks my pillow
I tuck in between the sand for warmth
I fight for space with ants and snakes
My wish is to live like a child

I wrote this poem because I had such a perfect childhood. Through watching news and also coming across those that are less fortunate , especially the children my heart breaks.
I always go back into my childhood, dig into the best moment of my life. I do this because I have been living with a chronic condition(Primary lympedema) for 16 years . Primary lympedema is when the lymph system did not develop properly at birth and causes certain parts of the body to be swollen. It has affected both my legs and feet and it causes me pain.
I am just sharing my story and to remind everyone that whatever we are going through we should always be thankful, for me paging through my past at least I thank God I had such a perfet childhood, grew up with both my parents and I only got the gift of lympedema at 16.
Whatever happens in our lives lets have an attitude of gratitude. For today, for the previous day, lets us not let the future overwhelm us. Like they say, one step at a time.
