One of my favorites is the original "Rocky" movie. A mediocre boxer from the streets on Philadelphia is given a once-in-a-million opportunity to box against the world heavryweight champion. However, Rocky's goal is not to win the match, but it is go the distance. As the end of the movie boxing match continues, we see Rocky getting beat-up over and over by the heavy weigh champ...but Rocky refuses to give up. Just participating in the match wasn't enough for him. He was determined to go the distance against the champ.
A second "don't give up" favorite movie of mine that I find very inspirational is "Rudy". The movie is based on a true story of a undersized and not very academically gifted young man who desires to play football for Notre Dame someday. First off, he has to get accepted to Notre Dame by working hard on improving his grades at a local community college. Once he is accepted by Notre Dame, he then walks-on as a member of the football practice squad. These are basically guys who get beat up in every practice by the Notre Dame starters...with no hope of ever actually playing in a game. However, pint-sized Rudy follows his dream and goes toe-to-toe with guys faster, bigger, and stronger than him...in hopes of realizing his dream one day of playing in an actual Notre Dame football game.
Both of these movies I pop into the VCR whenever I need a "pick me up" in order of perservering in my life's challenges or when I just need some inspiration to keep going.
There are a lot of inspirational subplots too...the coach's wife who is continually unable to get pregnant...the son of a handicapped father who questions his ability to succeed on the team...the team captain who turns from an underachieving louse to the team's on the field leader...the rebel son who discovers Jesus as well as a new found respect for his dad...
Thus, when I'm, feeling down and overwhelmed, this is one movie that inspires me to "not give up".
