I'm beginning to believe that a puppy is worse than having a toddler !!!!
Yesterday she got up to mischief and today is feeling a little sorry for herself !!!
While my partner came up to wake me up yesterday (I work nights), Alexi was left downstairs, up on the poof was my rucksack for work........she grabbed hold of the ends of it and pulled it off......she then got into it (it was slightly open), pulled out my lunch box and dragged it across the room and into some poo she had done !!, she then foraged in it further, found a book and chewed the corner of that, then found gold in the form of a satsuma, which she consumed the majority of peel and all........
Last evening my partner was eating some baby-bel cheeses....well Alexi was eyeing them up.....then my partner had to dash off upstairs quickly and left Alexi in the room.......when she came back she found Alexi had got up onto the sofa, and climbed across to the chair, and grabbed one of the baby-bel and had eaten it - the wax coating and all !!!!!
Well about 30 minutes after eating the baby-bel, Alexi was sick !!! and she was sick a bit again overnight, as well as having a bit of a runny tummy in the night !!!!!
Don't think for one minute though that will stop her from doing it all again, if she had the chance.........
Just as bad as having a toddler around the house ...........
I had a dog, my first dog actually, that ate a pin cushion, a thermometer, a wax candle and most of my clothes and shoes that I didn't hang up in time. I don't know how she survived eating all that stuff and she would grab stuff and swallow it whole if I took my eyes off of her for one minute. The dog I have now has never even tried to put anything except her toys in her mouth. For the dog that wanted to eat anything and everythng we had to put that stinky Ben Gay Arthritis cream on the electric cords to keep her from bitting into one of them. All of the dogs I've had always hated the smell of that Arthritis cream and would never come near anything that had on it. We tried the Texas Pete hot (hot pepper) sauce and it didn't work, one dog actually liked it ALOT. We also tried some stuff called Bitter Apple expecially made to keep dogs from chewing on things but didn't work well either. Only thing that really worked was BenGay Original, not the new unsented kind.
She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel......and yeah, very inquisitive.....she hasn't shown any major interest in cables etc, but does love the poo that the cat's do !!! YUCKKKKIIIEEEE
We were crate training her - and had success at the start........but then we went away for a few days and she went back to the breader and we foolishly said it would be alright for her not to be in the crate.....well think she got to used to the good life.......and when we put her back in the crate by night (or day) she barked and barked and barked......after a few sleepless nights, and the worry of complaints from our neighbours as she was so loud and they have young children............we gave in..........she now sleeps downstairs (we shut the door to the hallway) where she has free roam of the lounge/diningroom and kitchen with access to the garden if she wants it (uses the cat flap at present as she is still small enough to get through it)..........been having fun with toilet training her........and just as we thought we were getting somewhere have gone backwards again..........but we will get there.............
She is really bright, and will do almost anything for praise and a treat (except toilet in the right place!!), but we will get there.
Just started puppy class with her, and doing the Kennel Club Puppy Foundation Course, and she is doing really well.......
WOW I think I was really lucky with my pup. She was never really a chewer the extent of her damage was 1 mobile phone carger and a pair of thongs. we did have issues with her sleeping at night. I would just rouse at her and put her back on her bed and she soon go the idea. I did later have issues with her crying and barking when I went out but she did soon get over that also. Puppy school is great and feel free to talk to them about the issues u are having they are a great source of information and can really help.
When Jonty was a puppy he used to like having a tug of war with Wendy for other dogs Teddy bear. Poor Teddy had to go to hospital quite a lot. I think dogs like to chew while others don't do it so much. But we got Popsy who is still young, she is not a puppy but she loves to chew our shoes and paper.
another thing is, are you crate training her?
