I took my dogs to the vet, and they gave me this FRONT SHIELD topical stuff, suposed to work like advantage, they stopped carrying advantage. WRONG. i think it even attracted fleas. cause they have MORE fleas.
i took them back to the vet, and they gave me the spill of how they go out in the yard and bring them in. ok... but the fleas should DIE. and after arguing, i held up my dog, with fleas visibly crawling on her, huge adult fleas, so they refunded me, and gave me this pill called COMFORTIS. well they barfed it back up, all over my house, and in small print on the directions it says you have to give it to them again if they barf it within the hour. its 15 bucks a pill, and i have two dogs. screw that. im so angry, and i have a flea infestation, my one year old daughter had fleas in her hair, its disgusting. i dont even have carpet. so cleaning the house is easy. with advantage i NEVER had fleas in my house. once in a while one or two. just to let everyone know, these prescriptions suck. and i have to wait two weeks to even give advantage now because cant over load their systems with topical crap.
YUCK.

MY 2 DOGS WERE INFESTED WITH FLEAS LAST SPRING.. WHEN I ADOPTED SUMMMER SHE HAD THEM,I DID NOT KNOW IT FOR WEEKS. THEN I SAW SOX MY OTHER DOG SCRATHCING FEIRSLY. I CALLED MY VET TO SEE IF I COULD GET THEM DIPPED WHICH TO FIND OUT THEY DON'T DO ANYMORE.

I WAS GOING OUT OF MY MIND. I TRIED THE FRONTLINE WHICH DID NOT WORK AND SOME OTHER CRAP. I HAD THE HOUSE AND THE CARS BOMBED 3 TIMES. MY VET TOLD ME IF I STICK MOTH BALLS IN MY VACUUM AND VACUUME EVERY DAY IT SHOULD HELP GET THE ONES THAT ARE FALLING OFF.. BUT THEY STILL HAD THE FLEAS ON THEM....GRRRRR.. SO IN DESPERATION I CALLED PET MED. EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM AND SHE WAS SO NICE AND RECCOMMENDED ME TO ADVANTAGE WHICH FINALLY DID THE TRICK. AND SHE EVEN SAID IF THIS DOSNT WORK WE WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY!!

SO I COULD SAY IF THEY DON'T CARRY ADVANTAGE WHERE YOU GO TRY CALLING PET MEDS OR LOOK IT UP ON LINE.

WISHING YOU LUCK I KNOW TO WELL WHAT YOU ARE GOING THRU. PS.. I EVEN HAD TO BATH THEM EVERY NIGHT AND PUT THAT FLEE COMB THRU THEM SEVERAL TIMES A DAY WHICH HELPED GETTING ALOT OFF OF THEM.

advantage seems to be the only thing that does work. even a friend of mine, who is a pest terminator, owns the business, says it is the only thing that works. im just irritated to be out of the money for the pills, and have to wait now.

I USE THE K9 ADVANTIX ON MY POOCHES AND THEY WORK VERY WELL. THEY ARE NOT PILLS THEY ARE A LIQUID YOU SQUEEZE ON TO THERE SKIN STARTING AT THE NECK DOWN. GREAT FOR TICKS ALSO!!

we have never had a flea prob. we do not use any flee perventitives, althoue we do use garlick in there dog treats. the dogs love them and it seams to work.

ive heard of garlic, but when i try to research it, just as many people say it doesnt work as say it does.
same with washing them with dawn dish soap for fleas, some say its ok, others say it will harm.
who knows?

I THINK THE DAWN DISH SOAP WILL DRY OUT THERE SKIN TO MUCH. I WOULDN'T TRY IT ON MY 2 GIRLS.

i agree, dawn dish soap is to harsh a soap i think to use on pets. but what i think is just that, what i think. as far as garlic goes i use it but my friends dog can not eat it, it gives her skin probs.

I use Fibrotec, is it good. It helps our dogs.

i just thought about dawn vs flea and tick shampoo, cause my dogs had a reaction to that... they have sensitive skin. i did bathe them in the soap, and it worked. they stopped itching for about a week.
of course they got them back... but it did relieve them. now i got some advantage. but i think once in a great while its ok... didnt seem to hurt them at all. havent tried the garlic yet.

I work with a dog rescue and always thought dawn was okay...that was everyone there had always told me. Dawn kills fleas by smothering them..just like any shampoo would, but my vet told me last week that it is bad for their skin, but it works well if they have oil or something on them.

I called my vet today and they recommended two pills one called comstar or something (maybe its what you had) that starts working in 5 minutes and kills all the fleas on them but it only lasts 24 hours. They told me that pill was 6 dollars. THe other one is 15, that is a monthly pill, so I assume that is what your vet gave you too. My mom uses vinegar in our dogs drinking water...and although there is less fleas on them then last summer..there are fleas none the less.

A friend of mine I believe uses revolution that she says kills fleas ticks and prevents heartworms (im not familiar with it though)
