Do One Clean Thing Today! Community Group
Housework can overwhelm us. Sometimes we may not even know where to begin. I am starting this group to help myself and others "clean house". Let's clean-up together! Each day I will post one thing to do: unload the dishwasher, scrub the toilet, sweep the floor... you get the idea. We'll all do that one thing together and talk about it. What products do you use?...
When I'm upset, I retreat to my bedroom.
The next day, my bedroom looks like some kind of storm blew through. I've got tissues everywhere, bottles of water and mugs of tea, clothes and pajamas and who knows what else crumpled on the floor, crumpled bedding, pillowcases all salty and stained with tears.
So that's what we're cleaning today: our bedrooms.
Normally I break rooms up into smaller pieces. I never clean the entire kitchen all at once unless I'm angry or upset about something, or it's spring and I've been bit by the spring cleaning bug.
Bathrooms I also break up into smaller jobs - I usually do sinks one day, toilets on another day, floors on another day (usually with the rest of the house) and the tub/shower always feel like big jobs to me so they definitely get their own day.
I'm a big fan of breaking things up into smaller bites. It helps things feel more manageable. Plus, who really has time to do a whole ton of cleaning all at once anyway?
But bedrooms are the exception. I do tend to attack bedrooms all at once. I rip the sheets and comforters and mattress cover off the bed and wash them. I vacuum the mattress. I sweep/vacuum/mop the floor and nooks and crannies. I vacuum/dust the cobwebs out of the corners and walls. I tidy up - putting things in their place. I wipe down the furniture usually with a little Murphy's oil soap and water, or Dr. Bronner's soap and water. I clean the mirrors and windows.
By the end I'm putting the clean sheets and other bedding back on the bed and the room feels so good. The world set to rights again. The damage from the storm undone and calm and peace fills the room again. The bedroom transitions back into a place of refuge.
So off we go... let's get to it. And tonight we will sleep really good!

I prefer rural to urban areas, too, for every day living. Our city has around 150K people. Having grown up and spent the first half of my life in one of the countries biggest cities with over 1.5 mil people, 150K feels tiny to me. So I like it. :)
