Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
And for my next remark, why do you or your boyfriend feel like you have to pick up the slack for your X? Unless YOU or both of you volunteered to help out these folks, there is NO REASON why either of you should feel compelled to do it.
This is all about setting boundaries.

If your family and friends have come to love him and most importantly, you love him then nothing else matters. If the neighbors were people that knew you and your ex as a couple they might have trouble seeing you with someone else. Why they are giving your ex a free pass is anyone's guess. Often times after a divorce we loose friends and/or neighbors to our exes. If that's the case, then I just chalk it up to them not being great friends after all.
If you love this man that's all that matters.

Focus on what you want in your life going forward. Be happy with your boyfriend and secure in your own skin.
:)
I also just let the strange comments from my neighbor roll by.
I'm just confused as to why he keeps commenting on ex's relationship being so great (when he and other freinds told me they broke up), and I've been with the same person. It's just odd.
It's hard for people to accept the new person in your life. For whatever reason this seems to be moreso for the woman than the man. It's like we are supposed to be these gentle, submissive, grieving waifs when our men leave. I think not!
Why he's making these excuses for ex, I don't know.
I'm glad your neighbor likes your partner.
