Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
Today, I'm ready through our local paper and as always I read it front to back......news, sport, obits, want ads, rent ads....
I get to the rent ads and what do I see.....an ad for the condo I'm living in right now. My landlord has placed an ad to rent my condo and he hasn't even told me. Nice huh!!! Yes I'm a little behind on my rent, but not much. I guess I don't blame him with knowing I'm not getting any spousal support I cannot make the full payment, but he told me was trying to refinance at a lower rate for me and then this.
I just copied the ad and sent him a simple email asking if I should start looking for a new home.
My X is going to love this....just what he wanted.
Well, all I can do is look for another place and let the chips fall where they may.
Life just gets better and better.

He's your past and you have to look to your future. Look at your options and what you can afford on your own. Figure that anything he gives you is going to be a savings account from now on. A retirement of sorts.

My concern for you, and this is not to alarm you, but it sounds like your landlord may be getting ready to serve you with an eviction notice. He may be trying to refinance, but he has a mortgage to pay and that is why he has an ad in the paper, that and he knows you can not make the payment. Here it is first a 5 day notice, then a 15 and then you get 15 days and out. I have helped a number of people in landlord/ tenant situations.

Sometimes the changes we resist the hardest end up being the things that do us the most good.
Your landlord should have talked to you first. I know he has no obligation to do so, business is business, but from where I sit, kindness matters too.
I'm praying you will find a new place that you will end up liking just as well, that is more affordable.
And my home will always be wherever my children are happiest.
It still may work out but I was mostly disappointed in yet another person blindsiding me.
I talked to him today and we agreed to sit down and see what we can come up with that works for both of us. If there is no middle ground then I'll have to hit the rental ads again. Just a minor blip in the whole picture of life. And we will get through it just like we have everything else this past year - together.

I have not been on much and just read this. I don't know what has happened since and just hope things have worked out. It so hurts that you had to read the ad, not the way it should have been. Hope your landlord got back to you with kind words and a good explanation.
Please let me know how things are going. You are in my thoughts and prayers. If I can move again in such a short time, I know anyone can. I move with lots of baggage. I have so much faith in you.
