I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Government subsidized income [such as SS] is EXEMPT from garnishment, levy, bankruptcy, collection agencies, and etc. It mean the ex's SS funds cannot be legally accessed to collect for default /unpaid spousal support [ aka spousal alimony] awarded at divorce. You can get a levy on his privately owned vehicle.
Also for a little clarity re life insurance: The receipt gets BENEFITS from the life insurance should the ex lose his LIFE therefore unable to pay. Losing his job does not qualify.
