Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
I told my stbx as long as he was helping pay the rent on the condo that I would keep the dog here. The dog is one of the main reasons I took this condo because many other places would not allow a 130lb Malamute...too big.
Well, since he's been laid off permanently, he stopped paying EVERYTHING!!! So last night, after I asked him if he was going to help pay part of the rent and he replied that he didn't think he could, I packed up the dog and all her "toys" and shipped her over to his mom and dad's where he's living.
Needless to say he was not happy. I don't think mom and dad were either. But I wrote them a heartfelt note apologizing for "dropping" her in their lap knowing that they didn't ask for this, but reminding them that I didn't ask for this either.
That little indicent led to a verbal arguement about money and the kids and who's supporting them, yada, yada, yada. Let's just say that for now, I'm on my own.
He did indicate that he's getting a severence package from work and I should get a portion of that, but I'm thinking he thinks he's gonna pay me some petty little lump sum and I will go away. Not gonna happen.
Anyway, the dog is gone. One less responsibility for me and I'm happy about that even if he isn't. Too bad, so sad. Besides, he doesn't have a single responsibility at this point and now this forces him to be home everynight to take care of her and his hunting and fishing expeditions will be put on the back burner as well. His mom and dad are too old to deal with a dog her size.

Nan - I tried to give him the key to the condo and the whole kit and caboodle, kids included - he wouldn't take it. I told him it's because having the kids live with him would screw up his new single life. He just walked away. That was part of the "heated" discussion.
It really feels good not to have to put her out before work each morning, or come home right away because she needs to go out and get fed. Sadly, I don't miss her or the responsibility. She always was his dog.
