Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
You won't be as bad off as you think you will be. Yes, you file now before he gets out of town. Ask for temp support until the divorce is final. You won't have the ex in your life to carelessly spend money. Sit down and run the figures .Cut back where you can and yes your children might need to get jobs to cover their extras they want but don't need. You can do this and make it work.
My daughter started working at 16. I never told her to. She wanted to. She worked for the same company for 10 years or so. She paid her way through college, supported herself...and supported me when I filed for divorce. In Dec she finally graduated. An RN with a BS and works Cardiac Care Unit. It can be done. She worked and went to school full time but there are part time jobs out there for students, and grants.
Get an attorney. You are entitled to temporary support for you and the one child who is under age. Maybe even through college.
But it is possible to work while going to school. It teaches kids how to make good use of their time, how to manage money, how the world works, all kinds of good stuff.
Don't stress over it, sit down and as a family, discuss it with your kids. I bet you will find solution that works. Sounds like you are better off without your husband..
I was terrified too. Shocked and horrified but after 3 1/2 years my life is looking optimistic and I have hope now. I'm even a little excited about the future. I look back now and can't believe I actually got thru that time but I did and so will you !!!!!
If you can try to focus on your options and not what a horrifying man he is . I am so sorry he left you like this. What a piece of crap
Your aren't alone we are here for you. Sending big hugs to you.
If you have a computer , start to get names of Lawyers that you can call MONDAY.
When my x left me......and less then a year after my heart attack and she controlled all the money.
She didn't want to help me at all with the house bills and.......?even my pills.
I saw a lawyer and she got me $500 per month until the divorce. Thank God because at that time.
I had no control of any money. She opened up her own bank account.
So that $500 a month saved me.. You need to do this also.....
Cutting back on a lot of stuff really helps.....yes,cable is one of them. Watch where you buy your food and watch for sales.. Home made soup goes a long way.....and is healthy too. Resale shops for clothes and other home needs will save you a ton of $$$$$. If you're afraid of someone seeing yougp to resales shop. Go to a different town. You would even be surprised at many new to almost new clothes you can find there.
These are spoke drastic times for you....and you need to take drastic action..……please remember this ,,,,,this is all temporary..... You will get back on your feet...things will work out...... Just now is a time todowhat you must to survive... Put your pride aside..….for now ! Try to be positive around e kids......assuring them that all will begins....... You have each others love. Love is a powerful tooltpo have......
YOUCAN DO THIS!!!!!!
Godbless.....Time man
LAWYER MONDAY !!!!!!
You will be fine I sold everything I could and worked 4 jobs to feed my kids. I'm now down to 2 jobs, and things are looking up.
Hugs to you!
If the kids have to get jobs for extra clothes, treats and gas money, it won't hurt them, and there's ways for your daughter to get through school even if you can't give her a free ride. They'll be fine.
But, you need to get your husband legally tied into helping get them taken care of.
It won't hurt you either, he owes you that much, but if you need the motivation, look at your kids! We can do many things for them we wouldn't do for ourselves. Get strong for them. Take care, and don't forget to breathe.
Still planning...
Good luck finding another job. Yes, you can ask your kids to work. My kids all started part-time jobs at 16. It's good for their life skills to have a job and be responsible. We asked them to save a percentage of their pays but didn't enforce. They all saved. I'm sure if you needed them to help with daily costs, they would be willing. It wouldn't be for ever.
Your therapist is a mystery. He wouldn't be on holidays would he? Or ill? I tried to call a podiatrist today and they just weren't answering. When I went to the office, there was a sign up saying they were closed due to unforeseen circumstances. I guess if he doesn't answer soon, you might have to find another one.
Yes, I found that friends and family do get sick of listening. Even my little sister who has been divorced herself, was a tower of strength until my girls estranged from me. Then she said she couldn't do it any more. Luckily, I had a great therapist and one friend whose kids had also estranged her after divorce, so still had them, my doctor and DS.
You're going to be fine. It'll be tough for a bit but your determination to beat the problems will see you through.
love and hugs
