Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
Last Sunday while I was out for breakfast I ran into an old friend I haven't seen in a while. Her daughter and my son dated in 8th grade and she and I hit it off immediately. Every year for the next 4 years (even though the kids weren't dating anymore) we went up to the high school on the night of Homecoming dance and we sat together and watched all the kids and their beautiful dresses and suits go into the dance.
Anyway, at breakfast she came over to my table and the first thing she said was "what's wrong". Well this was the morning after my disasterous meeting with my stbx and I was very sad. I told her everything that has been happening and she was sorry to hear it.
Well tonight she and I went out to dinner and a movie and at dinner she said she knew something was wrong because the light in my eyes had gone out. She told me that there was always an aura (sp?) around me that radiated happiness. That my eyes radiated happiness and when she saw me last Sunday she didn't see that light anymore and she knew something was terribly wrong. I've always been a happy, goofy person.
I told her that I've been telling my kids that I feel like there's no light in my life anymore. Ironic huh. That she would say the same thing to me that I've been feeling. What a very perceptive friend.
Right now I just feel dead inside. Numb. Going through the motions of everyday. I feel so totally alone.
But I truly know in my heart that I will be OK when this is all over. I'm already a lot stronger than I ever thought I would be. I thought I would dwell in the misery of it all forever, and I'm not and I won't.
I look forward to the day that the light in my eyes returns and I can live my life being happy once again. That day will come - I have faith.

There just isn't any way that you'll get there without going through the "ugly" first. There is so much strength in numbers - look around you - we're all here for you.
