Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
You wrote "I don't want him back anymore, I just think I want to keep his "supposed love" and his helpfulness and friendship."
My therapist would read that and say that you are USING him. I would have to agree on that point. You are divorcing. In order to divorce yourself emotionally from this situation, you MUST get to NO CONTACT and keep it that way -- I would say for at least 6 months to a year. That will give you time to heal and move on a bit. I would suggest that you find a local handyman to help you with repairs around the house and get online and LEARN how to do some of those things by yourself. It's very empowering and will be even more valuable to you as time goes on.
If you are heading for divorce, then you need to make that break, as difificult as it is for you. It was a crutch for me because of fear. Now that I'm away from it for at least two years, I'm loving it.
Sending hugs!
Cowgirl I get what you mean about using him, but at least it's mutual, as he has needed some support from me on issues he hasn't dealt with previously too. I think well eventually learn to be less dependent on each other. Moving away from that proactively is probably a good idea though so that I am not forced into it by a jealous new girlfriend. Ugh, hate thinking about that. :(
Trust me. I have been there and done that!
