I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

I was listening to the radio and the announcer asked people to call in with memories of the year. My first reaction was "oh crap--I don't even want to think about that". Then I really thought about it. Yes, it had it's "most horrible" moments, but I also had some wonderful things happen. I met a man who recommended DS. A truely wonderful place. I met a handful of special friends that I never would have met if not for the divorce who I've grown to trust with my innermost feelings. Met one special lady who had dragged me back into the world of the living. My life is much richer than in 2008 and it's MINE. No one can tell me what I should think, how I should feel or how I should live. Thanks each of you who have guided me on this road.

Yes, you are so right. We are free to live our lives the way we want to. We took back the power of people to hurt us unbearably. I am alone now, but not lonely. A bit scared but that is normal for people who are divorced.

Hey, a lot of people are SCARED and they aren't divorced...some of them haven't even been married yet! There is nothing to fear but fear itself. The same can be said about fear of CHANGE. I have learned to look at change as opportunity instead of with trepidation. I don't like the old saying "what doesn't kill you will make you stronger" -- rather I like "the challenges we meet deepen our character." It's a whole lot more positive and won't give you high blood pressure.
Shorty, I'm glad that you are feeling RELIEF and that you are embracing the gifts that have come out of your most recent challenge! Things are looking up for you, and all of the good folks who came here for help and support.

I am alone on this New Year also.. but I realized, I have been alone for many years on Mew Years, even with a crowd. I am OK.. I will go to bed early and wake up to the new year.. Happy New year all

I am reading your post on this New Year's Day morning thinking....alone in Cancun on NYEve beats alone in the frozen tundra of Illinois any day of the week!
Cold here in MD this morning -- 24 degrees -- and we had a HUGE tree come down in the lower paddock sometime overnight....another mess to deal with.

Knuckle...I like what you said "We took back the power of people to hurt us unbearably".......that is such a powerful statement! I sometimes forget that I am in control and that he can only hurt me if I let him!

TAKE BACK YOUR POWER! Those are definitely words to live by no matter what the circumstances. None of us has total control over anything, but we CAN control how we react to the rapids in the River of Life. And we all have so much power -- in many forms....Intuition...Love...Tenacity...Creativity...the list goes on!

2009 will always be a year with bittersweet memories for me. It will always be the year my divorce was final, but it is a year with lots of highlights and firsts for me too.

I hope one day to totally forget about the bad and just remember the good.

    I had gone to the grocery store.  When I wheeled my cartback to my car I just stool there a minute.  A few spacesaway a Tesla Cyber truck was parked.  I had seen it on theroad a few times for a few seconds.  But not close up.It looked like it belonged to 2126 and not 2026.  I wasgoing to take a picture of the car but the owners cameback and drove away.  It was an ordinary middle age...
