I would do as much research as I could on this disease and how it effects loved ones. Talk with your doc about your childrens exposure. I do believe there is a Hep C support group here at DS...you may want to join for support and info. When I was diagnosed with Graves Disease I joined that support group here at DS...that was quite a few years ago...the info I received along with my own research and an open minded Doc...allowed me to go into remission and have remained in remission....Big Hugs...Kathy

You may never find out how you got it. Focus on your Heath and treatment. My dad found out he had it when he tried to donate blood. He went through treatment through and is considered cured. That was 8+ years ago. I'm sure they have better stuff to treat it now. (((HUGS))) btw, my mom was tested and she didn't have it.

So sorry to hear this, but the good news is, you have been diagnosed at the best possible time, when there are new and almost 100% certainty of cure treatments available. I work for one of the companies with a cure, so I know an awful lot about the burden and stigma of this disease, My best wishes and good thoughts to you. get treated soon.

I'd wait for the tests to come back for sure first, but if your Husband had it, I think that's your answer. Just concentrate on yourself @ this point. (((Hugs)))

I remember working for my father during all HS vacations, and ex being sick for most of the summer. He had mono, plus said he might have had Hep. C. I didn't start dating him until I finished college, and went back to work for my father. I know I put ex's past health in the past. Ex brought it up right before the divorce. He knew he had it, but didn't see the harm in not sharing. Did he not get the memo this was a transferrable disease?

I don't 'sleep' around, but ex does. Granted, at his age, he's not having any more kids, but with his accident record, he will infect someone with his blood.

I'm still wondering how to proceed. I want him out of my life, but it seems he's constantly here.

So sorry you have to deal with this. As Cmonge said, the silver lining is the huge medical advances they've made recently. Good luck with your treatment, and heal well.

My ex husband has Hep C and I am concerned with a few things you written here. First of all, Hep C is not an acute disease. He would not have been outwardly sick from it way back in the day. It is something that makes you sick as you grow older. Most people die with Hep C without ever having known they have it because the symptoms are generally so slow and not noticable until the disease is extremely advanced. Also, it is a blood borne disease which means the only way you get it is from blood to blood contact. IE: IV drug use, blood transfusion etc. It is EXTREMELY rare to get Hep C from sexual relations. As for you and the kids, yes definitely get tested, but I would not worry until you need to.
