Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
I am just so frustrated. I'm supposed to have my final divorce hearing next Monday. This past Monday I send my attorney an email asking if she has received the signed papers back from stbx's attorney. I don't hear from her until Wednesday. The x's attorney "just" sent the papers to him (what does "just" mean? - today, tomorrow, yesterday?) So - they go through the mail to the x - the x has to find a notary then mail the papers back to his attorney - his attorney mails them back to my attorney - and all this is going to be done by Monday? They seem to have a lot more faith in the mail system than I do. Why can't somebody just pick up the phone and say "hey come sign these papers"? Not to mention my master procrastinator of an X - who will take his sweet a$$ time finding a notary and taking care of business. In the mean time - somehow - attorney hours are racking up.
I have not had the attention I really expected from this attorney. And it's not that I haven't been staying on top of it. Phone calls, emails, faxes - just can't seem to get anybody to MOVE. Maybe my expectations are too high...I realize I am not their only client - but this has dragged on way longer than it should have and my $200.00 an hour is just as good as anybody else's. Our settlement is not that complicated. And on top of that, she neglected to include a quit claim deed for a piece of property in the papers that he needs to sign. Getting him to sign it later is going to be next to impossible - not because he doesn't want to - just because he won't get off his a$$ and get it done. I've told her all along how he is, I am NOT exaggerating - he is the biggest procrastinator in the WORLD. We live about 7 miles apart and I can't even get him to keep an appointment with me so he can give me my stinking birth certificate!!! Does that tell anybody anything? Nobody seems to take me seriously when I try to describe his procrastination. I guess it is pretty unbelievable. I may not believe it either if I hadn't lived with it for 30 years.

You can order another birth certificate online. They aren't very expensive. I was lucky and my daughter got me a copy of everything I needed from Ms. When I finally can draw SS off the ex I will need two marriage licenses and two divorce papers. I have those.
On health and divorce, someone or all of you should perhaps start making a fuss about all this bullship crap. It shouldn't be that hard or expensive.
These times are reminding me of ye old England when there were lords and surfs.

I won't post again on legal matters as I have no clue...But seriously, The scenario that I have read for about 1 1/2 years is so strange.
You people need an advocate to contest whatever laws are prevailing in this regard. If Toby winn is listening, sorry about that. But SMART lawyers should be concentrating on more important things.
Calm down, my dear. Your attorney will have all the ducks in a row for you. Soon, you won't have to deal with that lout for ANYTHING!
The quit claim deed is not the marital home - that house is up for sale, but the bank will take it before it ever sells. The QCD is for a piece of vacant land we own outright - I got it for taking responsibility for one of the debts.
I did get certified copies of my birth certificate a while back. This particular document is my ORIGINAL and I want it.
Getting him to sign on Monday wouldn't be a problem... if I knew that he was going to show up - which he doesn't have to and I suspect he won't do anything he doesn't have to do.
Lucy - no offense taken here - you are right - things are WAY more complicated than they should be. It's all about money unfortunately.
Hopefully I will hear something today so I know what I'm going to be doing on Monday......
I'll be so glad when this is over and I feel like I have some control over my life.
This is all the anxiety of getting to divorce day.. and not make you worry, often there is things to be done after the divorce also. It takes time to get divorced. Trish is right, and believe any of us who are on our own, it takes time and you will get there. Good luck
