Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

I was so stupid tonight. My kids went to their dad's today for his week with them and after they left my daughter called and said she needed a certain outfit for school tomorrow and asked if I would bring it over. Tomorrow is her first day in middle school so it's kind of important for her so I said sure. I went to the stbx's house which I've never been in before, he's only been in it about a month. When I got there, my daughter wanted to show me her room. I knew I probably shouldn't but I didn't want to disappoint her so I said okay and went in. The stbx was outside and my daughter showed me around (except his room). I did notice that there were several decorations he I doubt he would buy himself so I have a feeling it was the ow. But what upset me the most was as you are walking out the door, there was a plaque above the door that said, "I made a wish and you came true". I KNOW it isn't anything he would buy, and my daughter said he "found" it. But I know it was from the whore and I'm sure she had him put it there so he could see it every time he walked out the door.
I'm so heartbroken. I know about him and her, but to be confronted with it so openly.... I knew I shouldn't have gone in. I can't believe that he is getting the love I should be giving him from some skank. He had absolutely nothing of our life together there. I didn't expect it, but how nice it would have been to see some kind of appreciation for our past. But I know he doesn't want any reminders at all. He has a new life and a new woman and I'm just ... gone.
I hate this. I hate the sadness that never leaves, even when I'm happy. No matter what I do, no matter how happy I am, it's just on the surface. The core of me feels so so sad. I know with time things get better, I'm so much better now than I was before, but this underlying sadness. It's just as strong, sometimes stronger now than it was before. Will that ever go away? How do I accept that the love of my life is gone and is getting his emotional needs met by someone else? Everyone kept saying " don't worry their relationship is not going to last" but it has. Her divorce is now final. She's in love with him. I can see that. He says he's not in love with her but he has feelings for her. I had a friend who hadn't seen him in a long time with me and while I was in the house she talked to him because she's known him for almost as long as she's known me and she asked him if this is what he wanted and if this made him happy. He told her he had to do what was right for him. I don't know why, but I always hope that he'll say something different, that he made a mistake, that he still loves me or that he wants to come home or something like that when I know darn well it isn't going to happen. If I could just get rid of that hope!!!
I just don't know what kind of future I have to look forward to. I don't want to live the rest of my life with this sadness. No matter what I do it's always there, sitting in the pit of my soul dampening every moment I have. Even when I am laughing on the outside, I'm crying on the inside. Will I ever experience a moment of pure joy ever again? I am changed forever. My innocence and naivety about the sad and loneliness in this world, what has now become my world, is gone. I will never be the same again. Why? Why has this happened? I ask myself over and over again. Sure I could go back and point out different things that I or he could have done to make things better, but to me, it was always possibility. Now, it's something that was a missed opportunity. My desire to go back is so intense it penetrates my dreams. I had a dream I could stay in the now or go back in time to before we had children when we were young and only responsible for ourselves and careless and madly in love. I chose to go back despite my wonderful children and family and friends and career. He was the originator of all those things and he was all that mattered and when I was there with him, i was at peace. Will I ever feel that way again? Will the sorrow ever feel like just a flesh wound? I am so empty inside.

I am not divorced yet, but realistically every day that goes by my feelings go from being so in love with my husband to....this isn't so bad not dealing with all the stuff I dealt with before. We were married 30 years and he left the day after our 30th anniversary. To this day I have gotten no real explanation why, just invalid excuses. I am tiring of holding on to the thought of "maybe he will come back". I gave him the best years of my life and this is what I get in return? No, I cannot do this anymore because I deserve better. All I did was love him......and he left.
We all need to hang on, we will get through this!!!! Please just have faith and see yourself happy, you will receive it!! God bless you all!
And the fact that he lied to his daughter..."I found it". Please. Children aren't stupid.
I think it was nice (and brave) of you to go into your stbx's house. You should be able to visualize where you children are, what their rooms look like, etc. Your daughter wanted you to see where she stays, etc. So you were a good mom for doing that, even though you didn't want to.
You will feel better in time. It does take time. A LOT of time! My stbx took the job in China almost 3 years ago. We were still together then. The 18 months our marriage fell apart slowly. Then it's been almost 18 months since then. I've been in limbo those past 18 months, and in the past 3-4 months I've really come to an acceptance of this. We are in the process of divorcing, but I'm in a better place, because I've had those months of acceptance. But do you see how much time it took me?
I'm not even saying it will take that much time for you. It just takes a while, is what I'm saying.
Are you in counseling? What about a divorcecare group? All of those things are helpful to moving on.
Also, and I don't mean to be blunt or hurtful, but you need to stop thinking of him in terms of the love of your life, or a missed opportunity. That hurts your ability to move forward. At one point he was the love of your life, but he's not anymore. He's a jerk for treating you the way he has.
You need to focus on you and your kids. Don't focus on him anymore. You don't need to move on with another man. Just work on moving yourself forward a little bit. Baby steps.
None of us were perfect wives, or perfect husbands. But that's normal. So you didn't do anything wrong. Your husband changed, unfortunately. It stinks! I hate it! But there it is.
So hang in there. I do think things get better, it takes a ton of time. Take baby steps to move yourself forward. Do nice and fun things for yourself and your kids. We're all in this together!
Hugs to you!
If my child had invited me in, I would have gone too. You did nothing wrong. I think you did great by not hiding that sign in your purse. LOL
Hugs to you.
How great would that have been? Or if she took it, and then hung it in her house, and told her kids she "found" it! Ok, not mature, not realistic...but funny!!
You did a good thing, fatallove. Focus on that instead.
You did the right thing by your daughter and someday she will remember that and love you all the more for it. Someday she will reflect on how hard this whole process must be for you and finally get it. Hopefully by that time you will have moved on to a better and happier life and then she will also see what a strong, self-reliant woman you are.
What you need to do is buy your daughter something for her room at your STBX from you. Something that brings you closer to her while she's there. Something she can hold or look at and cherish because it came from you. Something special - you'll know it when you see it.
Nothing will take away the pain you are feeling right now. We must all go through this process of grief, pain, anger and acceptance before we can finally heal and move on. Although we cannot see it through our tears, I believe that there is a better life ahead of us and we just have to be patient and strong until it shows up on our doorstep.
Just remember that you are not alone - none of us are. We all know exactly what you are feeling and you can always come here for support and emotional purging. We will be here for you come hell or high water because that's what friends are for. We may not have known each other before our lives fell apart, but we know each other now and we have all grown because of it.
So many hugs coming your way. Stay strong and believe in a better future. At some point I can promise with all certainty that this too will pass.
I couldn't have gone over, would have broke my heart. You are not stupid at all.
From now on if something is forgothen, he would have to bring the child back home and then she/he could come in and get what they need. This contact thing is so hard. I have stopped doing it unless absolutly have to, hurts to much and then I go and do as you say stupid things.
I wish I could make you feel better Sweetheart, just know that I am with you all the way kiddo.
Loads of love to you

You have to let go of the hope. It's pretty evident that he's not going to suddenly change his mind. You have to accept this so that YOU can begin to heal. Difficult I know, but so necessary.
It's tough when it gets shoved in your face like that. You were brave for going into his home. How did you resist the urge to knock the stupid plaque on the floor and break it into a million pieces?
