I hear ya! I was a stay at home mom, and my retirement funds are very low :(. so I'll be 80 before I can retire :) I also am alone and don't see that changing, so I get your frustration. I just try to live in the present and count my blessings.

I know what you mean. My dream for me and the ex was to have a beach house. Yesterday I looked at my retirement account. At first I thought "that's a lot of money! Yay!" Then I realized it wasn't even a years salary in there. I started it after my divorce in 2010. There are all these calculators you can use on line to see if you'll have enough...I don't bother...it's too depressing....it will HAVE to be enough.

I am thinking of moving to florida And continue working. I
can buy something in a 55 + park The cost of the home is
not bad, the park fees were higher Than i thought 600.00
month. If it works out get a camper here in the summer.

Technically I am retired. I work hard and love what I am doing. Nothing would make me happier to die on this farm doing what I love.

I want to travel and go RVING, i am not a good driver
So that might be a challenge. We will see how life
unfolds. I am ready for change now that things are
Moving along and unfolding in a positive fashion.
I am still grieving, i need to step out of my comfort

I get you. Most days I feel like I can't afford to live long enough to retire, much less do so.
That's one of the things I still fight the resentments about, being able to retire, maybe travel a little, nothing extravagant, but now I have nothing coming in that isn't spent. Even if I take my paid days off, I can't afford gas or hotels to go out of town. Oh well. I need to take a breath, and remember there are so many that don't have a home at all, don't have a job at all, don't have any money coming in, never get beyond their neighborhood....... Trying to stay grateful, and ashamed when I struggle with it, but then remember I'm human, or at least trying to be human! LOL Big hug to you!
Oh.... you shouldn't have mentioned the perfect weather. We've had it too, except for a couple of heavy storms, but Minnesota is sending you some 100+ heat index days. Hot stuff, just not the kind you want!

I'm not sure I ever had a "retirement" dream myself. The X talked about a lot of different things during the 30 years we were together, but toward the end, all he talked about was retiring to some stupid golf community which I had absolutely NO interest in. Each time he would mention it, I would ask "Is there some place close by where I can keep my horse?" No answer. Clearly, he was planning for his retirement and I wasn't necessarily included. Oh well. In the end, the divorce cost him so dearly, he had to keep working despite talking about retiring at age 55. He is now 65 and doesn't look like he's going to retire anytime soon. As for me, I definitely got the better part of the deal financially, but even so, I am cautious about spending. But right now, I am living my OWN dream -- got my house on wheels and am traveling. My dear, departed fairy godmother Gloria always told me "GO WHILE YOU CAN!" So I'm doing just that!

You gals talking about the weather -- I've been out here in northwestern Wyoming for almost a week and the weather is awesome! Warm (mid-70's to low-80's daytime; nice and cool (40's) at night. I left steamy southwest Florida May 1 and already the heat was building and the humidity oppressive. Spent 2-1/2 months in Maryland and got out of there just in time, too. Since I left on Tuesday July 12, they've had temps in the high 90's and 100's with awful humidity, too. Glad I'm not going back that way until the end of August. Life is GOOD!

Hugs, Hon. All I wanted was to retire and just relax. Maybe travel a bit. Nothing extravagant. When we talked about it, he did not say much. We are better off without them. We can make our own plans, fulfill our own dreams. Maybe they are different dreams, but still, we can do it. I plan to travel Ontario this summer. Day trip, so it will not cost me a lot. Last week I went downtown and it cost me a whole 20 dollars. Simple life's pleasure. When I got back home, I was relaxed and at peace with life. Even though the place is a disaster thanks to the renovations of the plumbing in the building. Be kind to yourself and smile. Hugs

I think about retirement. Where I'll be, If I'm with a partner. I'd like to have a partner in retirement, I make no bones about that. A lot of people talk about traveling but I'm sort of a homebody. I'd like to be somewhere near some beauty, being a Canadian gal, I love the cold deep lakes and beauty of the woods, so maybe living near somewhere like that. Whatever will be will be. I have a saying from one of those packs of cards (someone famous puts them out, angel cards I think they're called?) anyway, the one I love says "listen to your life - the right path will reveal itself"
