I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

For the first time in 7 weeks I'm actually HAPPY!!! My boys and I have been so dissappointed that we're not doing our annual trip to the Keys in two weeks. But my oldest said he wasn't having it. He booked a room for him and his brother and some buds that's next to a place we went to for many years, and I just booked the room next door. It's not for a week, and we won't have the boat, but it's 3 whole nights! I'm a little bit worried about memories of old friends who deserted me (that's a whole other story) and not being with stbx, but I'm determined to make new memories. Hopefully my (married) best friend will be able to go with me, but if not, I'm perfectly comfortable going alone. Afterall, I'll have my boys and their friends and they don't think I cramp their style at all. I've been watching my pennies and consider this an early birthday present.

Finally, something to look forward to!

I say GO and ENJOY YOURSELF! And don't worry about having a friend of yours along, either. I took several trips cross-country during my 18 Months of Hell and found that I really enjoyed traveling ALONE as opposed with someone who was cross and uncommunicative most of the time! It's good practice for you and I think you will have a blast and a much-needed respite from the insanity!

As for memories, this time last year we (I??) were working on reconnecting and did alot of things together. I am making myself go to the places we did and do the things we did without him. Painful? Very. But I'll be OK.

Yeah! I am glad to hear you are doing better. It is so great that our boys are planning this fun time for everyone. So jealous!!!!!!!

Such an encouraging post!!! Thank you!! I hope you have a wonderful time. I love the Keys - my best friend and I are planning a trip there too next year. If you're going to be anywhere near Duck Key (mm 62) - they have a nice marina - we rented a pontoon from there once, it was reasonable and we had a great time!

We're not leaving until 6/22 but I'm glad I have something to look forward to. As I discovered last night, great highs can fall to great lows. I thought the boys would be here with their pals and I would cook up some grub, but they ended up going to their dad's and I felt incredibly lonely. Matter of fact, had a good old fashion pity party. I keep reminding myself that even when he was here I was incredibly lonely. I'll get back on the journal tomorrow and trudge through.

Yorkieluvr, we're going to Marathon - a little bit South of Duck Key. We're in Jupiter so it's only about a 3 hour drive. Thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm and smiles!

Kelly, it's great you have this trip to look forward to. It will help you in the coming weeks. If it is still a day by day journey for you, then hang in there - there is always tomorrow and there is ALWAYS the love of your boys.

You may have some sad moments on the trip, but I'm guessing that the happy times and laughter will far outweigh the sad. Keep taking care of YOU! Way to go
