What's wrong with being a gay divorcee? And by "gay" I mean fine and happy! Living well, after all, is the best revenge!

My 35th HS reunion was in 2006 -- while I was still in the throes of divorce and not in a good frame of mind. I wasn't going to go, but two close friends came and literally DRAGGED me out of my house and MADE me go. When people would ask "where's Jack?" I would simply tell them "he ran off almost a year ago and my lawyer is going to make cut bait out of him!"

The 40th reunion was in 2011. This time I went and, of course, was with Tom. Most of the folks in my class that lived had already met Tom and it was good. Nobody asked about the X which was also good.

My OMG! 45th is coming up next year. I'm already planning to go because it's always such a good time. Pretty much everyone knows already that I ditched Tom and moved down here. I'm looking forward to it!

Over half of marriages end in divorce so I doubt anyone is going to be shocked to the core. Just go and be yourself. Enjoy the reunion by catching up with old friends. That's what it's for. It's not a competition. I always got positive results when asked about my EX if I just said, "He made decisions that I couldn't live with, so I had to leave" and nothing more. If someone pry's I just say, "talking about it makes me sound bitter and I'm not bitter. What's new with you?" Then it gets dropped, of course people are people and they will make up their own stuff for gossip if that' their thing.

My 40th reunion was earlier this summer. I did not go. One reason is that I live far away from where I grew up and I did not want to spend money on plane fare to go. There was no one I was dying to see. I had gone to both my 20th and 30th reunions with my husband and had a good time, but I was not excited to go to this one as a divorced woman. I guess I feel some sense of shame or embarrassment even though he was the one who left me for another woman. Maybe I will feel more confident and at peace with being divorced by the time my 45th comes around. If you want to go, I say go for it. Most people will be partying and not even think that much about you being divorced For those who ask, have an answer ready to share. I think if you just say that you and your husband are no longer together, most people will say that they are sorry and leave it at that. Who knows...maybe you will reconnect with an old boyfriend who is no longer married :)

I'm with dairytech on this one, Moscato. There should be no shame on your part for what your X decided to do. Hold your head HIGH where ever you go because him leaving you for that other woman had NOTHING to do with YOU. It was all about him -- his selfishness and his lack of commitment!

This isn't about him anymore. It's about you! If you normally would be excited to go and catch up with everyone, go! By the time the 40th rolls around, most of the class are grownups anyway...LOL.
Go, have fun, and if your old boyfriends are still married, catch up and enjoy meeting their wives, if they're not, catch up and dance a little. Have fun!

Sounds like you really want to go, so go along and have a great time. I like the idea of admitting you are divorced but keep it light and change the subject.

I avoided a HS reunion several years ago, and it turned out hardly anyone in my year was there, anyway. I was a little disappointed I missed out on seeing some of my old teachers, though. They may not be here for the next one.
