Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

My attorney and I tried for 18 months to get the now-X to agree to the financial settlement on MY TERMS. After all, we were married almost 25 years and he is the one who wanted out (of course, to be with the OW).
Long story short, TWO DAYS before our trial date, I parked myself on the back porch of the apartment he was living in and was determined to sit there all night until he agreed to the settlement. Lo and behold, he KNEW at that point he stood to lose a Hellofalot MORE if left up to the judge. He signed at the 11th Hour and the next morning, we were in my attorney's office signing 99 pages and having the final documents notarized.
Out of court settlements ARE best because they cannot be rescinded or amended by any court of law (there would be specific language in your out of court settlement making THAT crystal clear), but if you've been waiting this long and truly want it to be over, then GO TO COURT.
Chances are too, that if he is shown to be defying the judge's orders and not complying, my guess is the judge is going to be pretty pissed. Could work out well in your favor. I know the magistrate in my hearings absolutely despised my ex. She just scowled at him during the final hearing.
Good luck. I have a feeling that if you push him to trial, he will settle on your terms.
Don't know why these idiots do this.
Sending hugs!
