Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
Friday Afternoon Update on Tom
CowgirlKathi
It's going on 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time Friday afternoon and guess what?
TOM IS HOME.!
Yup, they just don't keep you long these days...I have no idea if this is the "new medicine" or because of insurance companies!
When got up at 7:00 a.m. this morning, the first call I made was up to the hospital in Hagerstown. Tom had already been transferred down to Union Memorial in Baltimore at 3:00 a.m.
Called UM. Talked to the ER nurse and to Tom.
They were planning to operate on his leg and foot TODAY it was just a question as to whether it would be morning or afternoon. I was at the barn feeding Rio when Tom called again at 8:45 to say they were going to take him to the O.R. within the hour. He told me not to come screaming down there; I said "I will be there when you wake up!"
So I finished up, got my stuff together and headed down there. Arrived at 11:30 and he wasn't out of surgery yet, so I imagine the timeframe he had given me was a little off.
A little after 12:30, the nurse from Recovery came out and said I could go in with her. He was awake (groggy) and he saw me right away. He has a cast on his right lower leg and foot that is HUMONGOUS. Turns out, he had his ankle fractured and some of the small bones in his foot, too. His left hand is swollen and bruised, but nothing broken in it. The doctor said he will be 75% ok in four months; 99-100% in six months. NO WEIGHT BEARING AT ALL on the left foot for at least 4 weeks. I am to take him back for a checkup in a week to 10 days.
AND GUESS WHAT? They discharged him. Yup. Let me bring him home. I can't figure out these hospitals anymore, but was told that since he didn't have any life-threatening injury, that's the way they do it. I was STARVING and grabbed a quick sandwich in the cafeteria while having the prescriptions filled at the hospital. I didn't want to have to leave to go in town again once we got home.
By 2:30, we were loaded up and on the road. Cousin Gary met us here to help me get Tom into the house. He's got crutches, but getting around with them is awkward, so he is camped out on the new sofa in the sunroom. Thank goodness there's a bathroom on this floor!
God was DEFINITELY looking out for Tom last night. He told me that he saw the accident happening -- and that the front gismo on the motorcycle took the full impact of the car's bumper, otherwise, his left leg no doubt would have been crushed.
I am totally FRIED. But grateful that it wasn't worse. My phone has been ringing off the hook and I am now letting all calls go to voicemail. I will try to keep most folks updated via email. It's been a very long day....and a very long week. I think I'll go lie down for awhile.
I will keep you all updated over the weekend and can't thank my DS family for all of your concern and prayers.

P.S. - If I can figure out how to get these cool x-rays off the CD they gave me at the hospital, I intend to post them here so we can all see them!

I had gone to the grocery store. When I wheeled my cartback to my car I just stool there a minute. A few spacesaway a Tesla Cyber truck was parked. I had seen it on theroad a few times for a few seconds. But not close up.It looked like it belonged to 2126 and not 2026. I wasgoing to take a picture of the car but the owners cameback and drove away. It was an ordinary middle age...

when you have a pic of xray on the screen, hold ALT & hit the prt scr button, then you should be able to paste the pic into Paint & save as ,jpg
Goodgirlgonebad: I already KNOW what Tom is like when he's not feeling well, but he's not as whiney as the x always was (thank God). I did give Tom a brass meditation bell to ring if he needs me (my hearing is bad, but I can hear high tones!) but told him when I took it in there, "Abuse this bell, Buster, and it will fit very nicely up your nose!" LOL.
His buddies, Bob and Dan, brought the wrecked BMW "home" last evening after "bailing it out" of the storage place to the tune of $280 -- is that highway robbery or WHAT? They came in to visit for a few minutes and Tom was really grateful to them for getting the bike. Dan has offered to come and put the rest of the steel siding on the run-in shed when it comes in (I had to order it) and anything else around here that I can't handle on my own. I won't hesitate to ask!
Wondering why it was so hard for me to ask for help when I was out here by myself those 2 years, yet I know I will ask friends for help NOW? Interesting....
On the bike, we were chuckling with Tom's friends as to whether or not we should just put it on Craig's List and take what we can get...it's a real mess! Handlebars are PERMANENTLY turned to the right and it's all banged up. Still a really nice road bike....but we've got no use for it anymore.
Will keep you posted! Thanks again for all the prayers of support and healing!
