Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group

I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

For years I used to cross-stitch and I found it peaceful. I made all kinds of "treasures" for family and friends. Baby blankets, hand towels, wall plaques. Well I haven't done it for years and today I picked up some supplies to make all 4 of my grand-nieces a plaque with their names on them for their rooms. I have 2 newborns, a 3 year old, a 4 year old and another niece is pregnant and due in Feb.

If anyone has any babies or toddlers in their life who may want one of these, I'll be happy to make one. As soon as I get the first one done, I'll post a picture of it so you can see it. They are so cute.

I was so excited shopping for material and thread. I can't wait to get started. I figure I can fill up my lonely winter nights with making these gifts for the nieces. I know they will all love them. Maybe I'll be done by Christmas.

Life moves on doesn't it. I don't know how sometimes, but it just does.

Chrissy...that is a good step! Really! I've tried to find things to keep me busy too, and consequently, I am never bored. It helps so much. I scrapbook, rubber stamp, read, garden, do home improvement projects, and teach my dog tricks. I'm always busy with something. We can't afford to sit around and do nothing.

Chrissy, please do post a picture of one when you have it ready. My cousin is expecting twin boys. I am not a crafty person, but I did buy a few cross-stitch kits and a "learn to crochet" book (haven't done this for more that 25 years !). I also joined a book club, which will get me out of the house once a month, and I already made a new friend to talk to and do stuff with on the week-ends. So glad you are excited about your new project !

Sounds great! I have purchased a knitting booklet and crochet instruction booklet also. Just been doing little bits to get me started again - nothing major right now. It is so relaxing and keeps my mind in a more positive mode. Thinking of picking up an acoustic guitar too. I haven't played in quite awhile but I know that it wouldn't take much to get back into it. Maybe I can write of few "crying the blues" songs to get me through the "ugly" in my life right now! All you really need are a few cords and a couple glasses of wine and a story to tell. Got lots of um'.....

You keep up the good work. Try to keep yourself busy - it really helps. If you can, show us a picture of your work when your done. It would be great to see! I don't have anyone to purchase one for right now, but I sure would like to see it! Lots of hugs and good wishes.

I too keeping myself plenty busy with work and then any free time would be rubber stamping, scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, gardening, landscaping and if I can fit it in would be fishing. Thank goodness for all the hobbies otherwise I would be drinking myself to death after the divorced. I would love to see your work Chrissy, looking forward to see the pictures.

I did a lot of cross stitch in my time and that is great winter thing to do! Good for you! In one time in my life I tried to get in at least an hour a day. I know in this process it has been hard for a long time to do anything that I really like doing and being able to do something you enjoy is a big step.

Chrissy, you have inspired me to pick up cross stitching again. At the time my X left (almost a year ago) I was in the middle of making a baby blanket for a pregnant friend. When he left I just couldn't bring myself to work on it anymore and it was something that I really enjoyed (I've made them for my kids as wells as all my neiced and nephews and close friends). My friend has long since had her baby but I think I will finish it up for the next baby to come along.

Thanks to all of you for your words of encouragement. Just remember where I was 4 months ago when all this started - I was a total wreck. If I can take this step forward, so can you.

Is there something you've given up because your heart just wasn't in it anymore - go find it and start again. I'm doing this because I enjoy doing this and giving gifts has always been one of my joys in life.
